Guys, first and foremost, she was a guest of SBS & she was also a guest of the organizer of the Lalbagh ka Raja...Second, she was on TV; there was an expectation her reaction will be exuberant--people wait for hours & days for this darshan. As far as thanking Ganeshji for her success, she said, HE was ONE of the reasons..she by no means said He was the only reason...lets give credit where credit is due...My mom & I go to the Dargah at Haji Ali in Mumbai; but on that same visit, we also go to the Mahalakshmi Temple (which is next door) as well...does it mean I am less of a Hindu because I've prayed at my own temple & also at the revered mosque? We have seen Hina participate in many pujas on set as well...does that mean her faith in her own religion is any less?

SBS tends to concentrate on the major Hindu festivals; if they did a segment on Eid & Ramadan, I am sure she would be a big part of it...the problem lies with the media & the religious bias it sometimes displays...we can't fault anyone for that...& certainly not Hina, who is a very cultured, educated, conservative, modest, & family oriented person...& yes, a role model for many in the Muslim community...

@Nandalala .. Partially agree with u ..
But its not fault of media .. How is media responsible for ppl here blaming hina for not praising allah ??
Fault lies with ppl who puts god above everything ..

U just cannot force urself on anyone in the name of religion .. Does ur religion preaches u to pick on a girl who takes some other god name?? wht kind of religion is tht???
And those u r crying for this thread to be closed.. the question is why?? This thread just shows u how rigid mentality ppl have got .. they can curse at anyone in the name of allah .. They r giving bad name not only to their community but to their allah too ..

U need to know wht muslim community think abt her .. She must be facing this everytime she goes in her community... No wonder she thanks ganpati ..

Wow...I love the way you put it...so rationally...I sometimes wonder even education doesn't help people in the way they think...i guess they just need to grow up and start realising that they are Human first!!

Peace...Peace...Peace...
Each have their own relegion and beliefs and it is upto that person to believe in whatever God they want and customs they want. We cannot criticize our fellow humans over their personal choices.

But finally God is one...though whatever name is He called by.
Allah and Ganeshji won't fight with each other over who is great because they are both one. Then who are we to fight about them?

Plus don't we all believe that God is kind? God will not punish His children and to Him we are all His children. There are so many people who say that they don't believe in God, but still He wont punish even them.

So all of you out there, respect the God you worship by respecting your fellow humans.

Small mindedness is of thought and not action..

I think its fantastic that she believes in Ganapati - she in my eyes defines what India set out to be in 1947 - a secular state with secular citizens...not tunnel visioned individuals who decry and deplore simple acts of faith and devotion in the name of religion..
I am a Hindu and I visit churches and mosques and have prayed at Najaf & Karbala.. my religion doesn't prevent me from doing that, neither does doing that reduce my devotion to my faith and religion. its all in the mind & heart and faith is a matter of belief and I beleive its personal, no matter what any priest, pundit or mullah may say...
...and now some narrow minded people will take to the streets, write hate mail forcing the poor child to retract or apologise for being who she is :-)
To me God or faith in ANY religion should and does place far more emphasis on being a good human being (and your acts reflecting that good intention) rather than by which name you pray to God!

Do you really know Islam?
I have had the opportunity to study Islam and Quran as part of a thesis that I submitted on Islam, Quran and the Hadiths, similarities with other faiths and its connection with & impact on day-to-day life, so I am aware of a few things...
I hope you are aware that many practices attributed to the Quran are actually tribal practices which have been formalised as part of practiced religion?
Are you aware that the Quran speaks well of the relationship it has with books like the Torah and Gospel (which acc to it predate the Quran) and acknowledges their similarities and attributes these similarities to their unique origin, saying all of them have been revealed by the one God?
Do you know Aron, Moses, John the Baptist, Jesus are mentioned in the Quran as prophets of God? That Quran acknowledges their existence as men of God and religious texts as similar divine revelations? It does not accord them less or more importance.
Do you know that Jesus and Mary are mentioned more often in the Quran than in the New Testament?
I dont think Islam preaches intolerence or decrying an individual for paying respect to another religion, I beleive it is ill informed individuals and religious power seekers who do that.. to me, a religion or faith cannot and should not be imposed, it has to be heartfelt!
Islam is a lovely faith with some very good inherent community spirited ideologies - by saying these kind of things you are commiting blasphemy by bringing disrepute to the ideology of Islam.
