Hina Khan, who plays Akshara in Star Plus' Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, has been loved by the audience ever since she joined the Star parivaar.

Hina has managed to handle her success with calm and grace. And now, she's all set to perform live for the first time for television's biggest event, Star Parivaar Awards 2009. BT caught up with her before the final performance.

Tell us about your performance at Star Parivaar Awards?

It's my first live performance ever. I am performing on the song Genda phool from Delhi 6 with the entire cast of Yeh Rishta... It connects to the storyline of my wedding in the show. It's a 12-minute performance. It's a very emotional dance sequence. Another act is the elaborate and fabulous finale circus act on the Mar jaani song in which Naitik (Karan Mehra) and the lead actors from Bidaai will join us. I froze when I first heard the concept. It has many experienced trapeze artists, who perform difficult steps with extreme ease and confidence. I almost feigned a slip disc to avoid it, but the team of Star Plus encouraged me. It's tough to shoot for 12-14 hours, and then rehearse for four hours.

How does it feel to be a part of Star Parivaar Awards 2009?

My dream has come true. I feel humbled to get a platform like Star Plus at such a young age and play the lead of a show that portrays modern India without forsaking our traditions and values. I've watched Star Parivaar Awards, and to find myself nominated in three categories is awesome. I can't wait to walk the red carpet and mingle with other actors who I've adored for many years.

Yeh Rishta... became the No 1 serial within three months. What do you think worked for the serial?

It feels great. I'm lucky that the show has created history. It's a positive show that deals with the concept of finding love after an arranged marriage — one that most Indian viewers relate to!

How do you relate to the character you play?

It's almost like watching myself on screen! Like Akshara, I'm also simple at heart and close to my family. I'm obedient and always do what my parents say.

Do you believe in arranged or love marriage?

I believe in both. If I fall in love, I will tell my parents. At the same time, I will have no issues if they find a life partner for me.

Who is your favourite character on STAR Plus?

It has to be Angad Hasija (Alekh in Bidaai). He plays such a tough role with so much ease.
