very well written post ,

I have nothing to say other than to see simple , neat , clean shows pulled off or not making in top list just because audience love to see Scheming , plotting 24/7 along with crying and weak female lead

Excellent post and a must see for all viewers not only of this forum, but for those CVs and channel people enmasse..
The TRPs are the boon and bane of many a serials; whether drag-on-dramas or good short lived shows..
The extrapolation of a few thousand respondants to the billions of people watching TV can never be justified..
Just like our five fingers are not one and the same size, how can all the serials be judged by these rotten TRPs..In fact I suspect the rating agencies themselves are rigged to spew these kinds of TRPs...
Unless and until there is a credible way to monitor and rate the serials and leave everything to the billions of viewers(People can vote for their fav serials , whether they can be continued or not), nothing much can be hoped or changed in this Indian Television Industry..

Very well put, but there is an exception in case of LTL, where trp's are good , but the channel is interested in ruining it by removing the lead hero, inspite of hundreds of posts send to the concerned responsible people in the channel, with no official reply from their side. Here viewers are taken for granted just to satisfy their ego. Resaons can vary but the serial does get killed.

As I wrote earlier, am back with my two cents...

I did not really know much about TRPs and the havoc they wreck till I started watching 'Yeh Pyar Na Hoga Kam' which was aired on Colors at 9pm. The story started well. Simple love story set in city of Lucknow. The star cast was great and the lead pair of Gaurav Khanna and Yami Gautam were amazing. Even the sets that were erected to show the lanes of Lucknow were very real.

Then, the TRPs took over the whole story. Which left all of us who were initially attracted to the storyline of a very believable story with a bad taste in the mouth. They made the female lead cry to no end and negative characters were introduced for no reason or rhyme. And it all wen into a tailspin which led into more drop of so called TRPs and our beloved show was pulled off air.

If they only started with a bound script and a known number of episodes which would run a duration of a few months, I think, that would do justice to the story and the actors. I feel , they would give out even more stellar performances when they know that the story that they started with and signed on the show in the first place, will not be tampered with and the end result would be a beautiful serial.
Or even having different number of seasons wherein new characters enter and leave at the beginning and the end of the season would be nice too...

The Indian television Industry should take some steps to streamline these measuring systems or just do away with them..rather than play spoilsport with the audiences.

well i agree to u , but here with us as an LTLian , the cvs are the serial killers ,
but i agree to u , they sometimes didnt give a chance to a serial to prove itself and end it before it starts !

yeah! its really disgusting when a small number of people decides the trps especially when it comes to a populated country like India neglacting the other fraction.....
Its really annoying when a show with strong story gets chopped because of TRPs ....on other side a story having no proper storyline gets high TRPs

Completely agree with you. TRPs have become the backbone of shows. As a viewer, i have seen many shows. Some from the beginning while joined some halfway. And i have to say that i have always been disappointed by what i saw. Unnecessary twists and turns lose the flavour they once promise, particularly in the beginning.

I can recall a show called Kasturi (Ekta Kapoor's production) which i started watching out of pure boredom. As i started from the beginning, i have to admit i did get hooked for a while but then the story went so downhill ! This example can be used for many shows out there which struggle to produce something new, but failing badly in the attempt. People come, die, are reborn, all the unrealistic things mixed with an ounce of reality are shown in the so-called "daily soaps".

The television industry really needs to change their attitude on this issue. TRPs although have influence over show but they should not be made the sole reason for the running of the show.

I totally agree with you, the TRPs just kill the main storry. I mean when a show start the CVs has their own vision, like the writer, mostly a clear vision, but what happens, later on the writer is told make a new vision, creativity comes natuarlly, but when the team is forced to think from the other way, then the whole show becomes a KHICHDI.

I dont get it, why cant they give the team a freedom of thinkin, and show what they originally thought of, rather than pushing/forcing them to add masala, at times masala isnt needed at that current time when the TRPs are low, but the channels are always so impatient and cant wait for the strory to unfold, and the end product is raw they never let it grow, its halfbaked.

In a long run or at the end, NO show can be called as a good show, cuz it has already been ruined many times in its journey.
I want shows where I can say this show was so awesome, throughout, from beginning till the end.

Great post dear/amu
