Hi all. Instead of being sad, I want to spend the last week of our show appreciating aspects of the show that made it appeal to us, in looks, method, production values, details, story etc etc etc.
Will make a post everyday picking an aspect. Today I pick Aru's styling. You all are welcome to add more points, or aspects from your side to them.
The first thing that had caught my attention to one of the episodes was where Mukhi gets wet in the rain since he is out in balcony overnight an Aru is sleeping, she does not open the door. Next morning upon realizing the predicament, she offers to go to the doctor with him . That was the first scene I had watched...and what piqued my curiosity is that this seemingly young girl with a very unvillage like attire , a casual simple salwar , without bindi and duppata is married to this utterly sanki village guy, older to her, who saves hi bakri rather than himself from rain. The only thing that told me they are married is the mangalsutra in her neck. Since that day, started watching all the episodes. Realized that apart form one episode where she is dressed as Mukhiyani soon after the wedding, all the episodes show her in simple kurta with jeans underneath, no sar pe pallu or saree or even a duppata , and no forcible bindi. 👏. The freshness of her simple dressup, Mukhi's strong decision that she should not be forced to wear village style clothes because she is from a city, let her be her..was one of the most awesome scenes and social messages ever. !!!
Most of the shows show the female lead , even a modern one , getting into the saree, bindi, duppata, pallu, jewelerry, pairi pauna, vrat , pooja ...the whole 9 yards jing back that depict that the girl has to fall into the traditions and styling, no matter how she grew up. Worse, the inconvinience of such clothing is never brought up in the shows. Even the actresses who play these roles complain about the heavy stuff they have to wear everyday once the wedding is done in the show.
I want to appreciate the Makers of this show for taking path breaking approach of how a girl can dress after her marriage, even if she is in a village!!
How many shows dare to show the lead in jeans without a bindi and duppata after her marriage..and this girl is a village Mukhiyani!! But still no one forces any change in her attire...no one in the village complains..they all call her Mukhiyani Bhabhi. accept her as she is!! The makers didn't even go for the mandatory duppatta usually shown in the villages...The only time duppatta came into picture was recent when Mukhi gifts her one. And one more when Aru wears duppatta to Choudhary Jilebi in AHMD.
What a fresh approach to the woman's choice of comfort and convenience in her daily life after her wedding. And her attire did not reduce her devotion or love, her dignity or her role in the family or village. Loved Niyati through and through in the kurta jeans combi...with the short Mangalsutra. The very image poses a young, no nonsense, no nakhras type of a girl.
Ofcourse, Aru is able to dress like that because Mukhi makes it clear to Rami and others that Aru should wear what she is used to wearing. Just like he is used to wearing Dhoti and village style clothes. Loved Mukhi's characterization here as a man who respects individual freedom and choice here. No matter even if she is Mukhiyani.
And yes the one episode where Aru wears the white and red simple saree and looks divine in it during kanyadaan, makers played the tradition to emotion and vice versa. They didnt do that tradition for the sake of it, but rather because Aru Mukhi had reached the right phase in their relationship by then.
Kudos to the makers on this note of freshness and realism!!
