This past week (12 to 16 June) sure had some seriously emotional moments! 😃😭👏
It was great to see Aru supporting Mukhi through his sadness over Mishri leaving after her wedding, and being able to get him to smile and laugh with her Sallu Bhai comments and gulab jamun eating antics! That was a lovely, funny but very touching ArMu moment. ⭐️😊
It was also very heartening to see Saanvi supporting her best friend Mukhi and getting him to talk about his feelings towards Aru and his marriage. I'm glad that Saanvi was able to get Mukhi to open up and admit that he does feel Aru is right for him as a partner, and to voice his reservations about whether he himself is right for Aru. It was great to finally hear some of Mukhi's thoughts about Aru, her dreams and their marriage - hopefully he will eventually tell Aru how he feels. ⭐️
Of course it would have been great to see ArMu have an honest, mature conversation about their marriage, with Mukhi telling Aru how he feels, and with them discussing whether they want to get divorced or not, etc etc. Obviously they didn't have this in the show yet to keep the emotions running high, and of course we all knew that Aru wouldn't actually be leaving the village after their (at the time, upcoming) accident. I hope that ArMu will have some honest conversations during/after Mukhi's recovery, but the overall point of this post is to appreciate the role of Saanvi in the situations that they did have in the show this past week.
Saanvi is a widow. Her husband is dead. Gone. Forever. (As far as we know - it is a TV show after all!)
Saanvi is the one core character in YMMKD who knows the pain of losing a life partner forever, and of being alone due to this despite being surrounded by loved ones. She hasn't been allowed to remarry (I assume by her father, the very orthodox former Mukhiya) and so is still living in enforced loneliness, even though her current pregnancy suggests that there is a man in her life (which I'm sure we'll learn more about later on, when the time comes!).
(Rami, Lalji, Dharmi and Anshul also understand what it is like to lose a partner to different extents, but neither of them/their partners have died, and Rami-Lalji and Dharmi-Anshul are currently reunited.)
Now, despite being the much loved and respected village chief and being surrounded by his family members, Mukhi has led a pretty lonely life for 20-odd years. Mishri and Saanvi were the closest to him for years until Aru arrived, and Mishri knew her brother would be alone after she got married and left the village, which is why she was so adamant that he get married as well. ⭐️
Saanvi knows what it is like to lose her husband and live a life of loneliness. She has seen her best friend Mukhi live for others (for young Mishri, for the village, for his responsibilities) without thinking about himself/his own life along with that. She is the one character who knows both how lonely Mukhi has been in the past and how lonely he might feel once his wife leaves the village forever (as they thought would be happening at the time). And she knows that he would throw himself into his work and not even think about marrying someone else.
As Saanvi was the only person apart from ArMu who knew that Aru was planning to leave, she is obviously the only one other than Mukhi who could try to stop that from happening. Some people may think Saanvi was being overly emotional in trying to get Mukhi to not let Aru leave, and to get Aru to not leave herself, but I think Saanvi's feelings and actions are justified given what we know of her background and her characterisation so far. Saanvi can see that ArMu can have a happy life together and just wants them to give their marriage a go when they have the choice and chance to do so - something she herself no longer had when her husband died.
So to the writers of YMMKD, a big thank you for having Saanvi be such a support for Mukhi and Aru this past week and for getting Mukhi to start to open up about his feelings. 👏⭐️ (We all know they need some support, with all the danger they've faced recently!)
I think Saanvi's very strong emotional reaction to the (then upcoming) Aru-leaving-forever-and-Mukhi-being-alone situation fit very well with her characterisation to date as Mukhi's best friend who cares for his happiness, and with her status as a widow who understands the pain of losing her partner. (Also thanks a lot for not having Saanvi actually tell Aru everything that Mukhi told her - this way Saanvi hasn't overstepped the mark, and ArMu will have to talk to each other, which is exactly what they need!) 👏
