“For every Jhansi Ki Rani, there is a Ravan Kumar.”

Ever since the first episode of this show aired,I have noticed that Rudraksh is the only character who has been subjected to scrutiny more than anyone else in the show.Every single mistake of his has been amplified whereas his good deeds were paid dust. Why is it so? Why are we so eager to dismiss this one character when there have been worse characters in the history of Indian television and will continue to be?

Let’s have a glimpse at Rudr’s character sketch and his signature traits first. The hotstar synopsis of the show describes him as an “insensitive” Rockstar. That is how he was in the initial episodes but that insensitivity of his was a mere mask to hide the actual person which he is.However he was never supposed to be a picture perfect character and that’s the point. Just like every other character,he has his own share of flaws and the very point of the story is how he overcomes his flaws and develops. As a kid,Rudr was subjected to physical, mental and emotional abuse due to which his self esteem got damaged. He was made to believe that he is nothing more than a money minting machine by his own father.Even then he didn’t lose his sanity and grew into a person who is actually capable of caring for others,i.e., the people he considers to be his own. Be it Sharda,Rajeev,Saaransh or Preesha. Not once did he use his past as an excuse to act like a jerk and get away with it. Even during the jail track when he was mad at Preesha,he assured GPS and Vasu that he would take propercare of Saraansh. His anger at Preesha wasn’t redirected at them. When the show began,he wasn’t good with kids. However he is learning to be a parent to Saraansh because of the sudden loss and responsibility which he had to face.

As far as his equation with Preesha is concerned then it is not a random misunderstanding which exists between them.He is under the impression that she murdered his biological brother. The brother who meant everything to him.Yet he learnt how to coexist with her for the sake of the kid who is his brother’s last memento. He came to know more about her as a person through this compromise and began to respect her for the amazing mother she is to Saraansh.Eventually he got attracted towards her and developed an attachment to her primarily after witnessing her take a stand for him in front of his abusive father. But as long as the truth about Rajeev’s death stands in between them, their relationship remains precarious.

Now coming back to Rudra as an individual character,he was never supposed to be the King of Hearts in the first place. But what will remain of the story if his character does a 360 degree turn overnight? He is supposed to be cut from the same wood as the OG Ravan Kumar,a.k.a.,Raman Bhalla of the initial days of YHM. Even if both are different characters, they will have some traits in common.Mild aggression and volatility will be essential features of his character along with maturity and calmness. I don’t understand what people expect from his character. He can get angry, upset, jealous and possessive. He can also get hurt. It doesn’t mean that he is butchered. It means that he is humane. Otherwise what will be the difference between him and all those flower pot male leads whose sole purpose of existence is to romance the female lead? The friction and cooperation between RuSha is the driving force of the story. So I don’t understand what some people expect from him in the first place? Should he stop showing human emotions altogether? Also it is unwise to jump to conclusions about anyone without watching the entire thing properly. Just wait and watch the episode properly first.

You spoke my heart out ashi!!!!!!! Every single words of yours holds truth. I’ve been feeling the same lately seeing all the bashing that’s been going on against Ru- by this post you’ve said everything that has to be said.

People who criticise Rudra really need to watch YHM. Raman Bhalla wasn’t a perfect husband. He’s done so much that went against being the perfect male lead. He was no Ram. He was Raavan Kumar. He was angry, impulsive and did a lot of wrong to Ishita too during the various leaps.

this is the same shows spin off. In fact I remember both Raman and Ishita saying that hopefully even Preesha finds a paagal like Ravan Kumar who loves her madly too.

Rudra isn’t perfect, he has flaws. The point of the story is him eventually going through character development and change- which will happen with time. Abrar is doing a fantastic job showings Rudra’s various shades.

Also the show is breaking many stereotypes.

The tracks move fast, especially post lockdown.

They have developed a bond between Rudraksh and Preesha.

give them time, instead of bashing constantly. It’s not going to be a cotton candy romance or picture perfect boring characters- there are other shows that are showing enough of that already, on SP.

Each and EVERY point you stated is 110% true!! Also, why is it so bad if a character is flawed or does things that we believe is morally wrong? Honest question here. Personally, I see nothing wrong with there being flawed characters. These flawed characters have the potential to GROW and evolve over time by learning from their mistakes. It makes things MUCH more realistic compared to characters that are always portrayed as FLAWLESS and perfect.

For instance, sometimes in anger, we might verbally say some things we regret but that doesn't exactly reflect the type of person we are. I myself am a pretty impulsive person and have done things or said things that I have MAJORLY regretted a few minutes later. However, the realization over time that I have done something wrong is the beauty of becoming a better person. Yes, Ru might have committed some actions in the past but this doesn't make him a bad person! We all commit mistakes and are flawed. Nobody is perfect. Plus, like you said Ru has gone through so many things in his life, and for him turning out the way he has is actually a pretty big deal!

Damn!!!? Every word you said so, I agreee.

Everyone has flaws.

Nobody in this show is perfect which is good cuz the show isn't trying to make believe in creating perfect fictional characters , they are trying to show a bunch of normal people who can be like us like the next door person.

Everyone in this show has flaws that's what makes the show interesting and unique from others cuz they are trying to accept their flaws and become a better person. Well as of now, atleast the positive characters only.

And also everyone has their own way to react to things and express their emotions.

Now I can't go justifying each and every scene why a person reacted like that.

Even though Ru was shown like a insensitive arrogant rockstar who doesn't give a damn about others in the first episode. They completely showed a different version of him with his brother.

The way he is with everyone is due to the relation he shares with them.

Even Pree isn't perfect.

Saransh isn't

The Srinivasans and Khuranas. Nobody is.

The beauty is they are trying to show the drama betweeen a few characters which can be real and like us.

Well, I'm a Ru fan since day1 and then a RuSha fan. And a Pree-Saaransh back in s1 and now a RuShaNsh fan(but only Vidhu as Saransh) not this new RuShaNsh😂 #SorryNotSorry

Nice post indeed! But Not Just Rudraksh Preesha is also the victim of assumptions.

What Preesha has done for Saransh it is not easy which even Rajeev couldnt do even though he was the father.

Rudraksh is raising saransh as his brother's wish but preesha did it ever since she gave heartbeat to saransh and took the blame of unwed mother so that saransh should not be called as illegitimate child.

Rudraksh in his impulsive anger, Balraj and vamps are behaving with preesha as if she is a hard core criminal.

That day preesha just sat alone in the room reading rajeev's diary rudraksh immediately starting blaming her that she has killed rajeev and now she is plotting to kill him without even once investigating the truth

WOW. Well written. We need to understand the depth of the characters too instead of shouting out at their flaws.

Somebody needs to justify Preesha's character too since so many of them are questioning about her character more than Rudraksh..

While he is impulsive and can get angry, I see Rudraksh as someone who is still vulnerable because of his childhood....even more vulnerable that Sarnash who has all the love in the world (though he missed on fathers love and will be susceptible when he finds out he is orphaned)

Rudra is someone who has put false bravado so far to cover his flaws, lack of love and support in this life. Lack of genuine care. Yes his mother (step mother cared for him) but could never protect him, as a child needs. His brother cared a loved, but he too couldn’t stand up for him. In that sense, despite the love and care (restrained as it was) he has never had protection, support or trust. He has been the dumb child even when he had some good ideas on how to tackle those that were plotting against him.

And yes, he is impulsive (volatile) and angry when something that is close and emotional connected to him is destroyed. Then he is driven by emotions and not logical doubts about whether Preesha is really capable of killing his brother of not.

For him, if he has that support, someone to care, someone he can trust, then there would be nothing he wouldn’t do for them. Because he had never had it before and he has craved for it. If he is made to feel he has it and then made to believe that it was all illusion or if it is snatched away from him, he is going to explode....impulsive, angry, betrayed, heartbroken and even cold....unwilling to trust again.

He has never seen love before. Not in his parents relation. Not in his brothers. Not in anything he experience before. So while love as notion is something that he might have in his songs, he doesn’t have the ability to recognise it. Even though he is someone who would appreciate its colours more deeply that any of the other characters in this show.

Preesha on the other hand is the responsible one. She had taken responsibility for everyone around her in a way. Her sister’s promise, Yuvraj’s career, her dad’s arrest, the blackmailer, the kidnappers, the nurse even. In that sense, she does have the definite colours of a ITV female lead who will take everyone’s blame on herself and shelter them....many times when they don’t deserve it and encourage bad actions from them even more.

but she is not he abla Nari of ITV either....majority of the times. She can speak her mind. Stop tougher people a lot more confidently and with conviction vs the usual docile FL.

She has been responsible for so long that taking help and letting someone else in to the problem doesn’t come naturally to her...it is alien in a way. Rudra showing his vulnerability and he care he has for Sarnash is opening her up some what but not always and not entirely.

She is someone who has been surrounded by love. She understands it to some extent. Missed it in her life though she could never admit it...mostly to herself too because god forbid it conflict with her promise about Saransh. In that somewhere her childhood friend who seemed sincere, seemed to care for her, stand in the tough years with her without calling her names, who is like her father....brought the yearning for love in her....the same way Sarnash has been yearning for a father somewhere in his heart. Both were quick to accept and pedestal Yuvraj in that role, but his behaviour even before rajeev’s death left more to be desired for both though pree was good at making excuses for it.

It was the jail track that raised lot of questions in pree even when she was protecting him. Question about his being father to her Saransh and about his truthfulness to her. So much so that he trusted Rudraksh with complete custody over yuvraj. That divide is increasing wider and seeing Rudra fill the role that she had always dreamt Yuvraj would....seeing Rudra actually live that role is making her question things. You can be blind to something that you don’t see and know. She cannot be blind to the compare and contrast that is happening in front of her eyes.

she will take time to recognise the love though and some more to accept it. She has made the mistake once...which she somewhere deep inside she realises but doesn’t accept. What is worse is that she has had a time when she put Yuvraj ahead of Saransh and she is living in that guilt when she lost her life and Sarnash was completely broken. Now she has made Sarnash her priority even more aggressively and her sole purpose. Now to let someone else have some priority....not out of duty but out of emotions...even when she feels them ...will take time.

Losing Rudra will be that moment for her when she will need to accept the place he has in her heart all by himself and not as Saransh parent. And that he is as important to her as Saraansh. Right now, she is scared to even venturing anywhere close to that territory ....may be scared that it will end soon...that it is not permanent. That is why she keeps on tagging it as married for Saraansh....and that rudr Care for her is as Saraansh mom and not as pree the individual.

Exaclty

Ru is a flawed human being. He is not perfect. He is not mahan. He is agressive yet soft hearted, he is possessive yet caring, he is emotional yet wise. Indeed he is a complete package.

I agreed Raman bhalla from yhm was also a flawed human being which made my to like his character as he was not perfect, he had anger issues yet he was loving and caring.

Same with Ru, he has his own flaws. And I guess such characters are more relatable than those mahaan ones.
