The present day Naina clad in what looks like a low key gorgeous maroon (of sorts) gown steps out of her lavish car in front on her school 'Pragati Vidya Ka Mandir' that is now both Hindi and English medium. Her Voice over tells that it's Ahemdabad, a city no different from Mumbai or Delhi in respect to the fast paced life of people. But, "Ye shaher bhi kabhi shaant hua karta tha, Mera ghar hua karta tha." And that's when we can see a much younger Naina who came out of Present day's Naina's memories on cycle. That one scene has so much to offer. We are told of little things that matters, like the best award for Naina would always be her name on the toppers' list of her school, and many more such little things.
We are taken down the memory lane to 1990 when Naina moved to class XI. The setting is so simple yet so powerful, you would want to breath in 90s. We are told that there were no technology and how simple and connected life, people had. (Ah! Aisa ab nahi ho sakta kya?) Clad in cyan tunic and white shirt, hair tied in two braids with write ribbon adoring it, is our Naina, ready to go to school.
Kamya is showing off her pearl necklace which is apparently 'Bharibharkam' (lol). That's when Rahim's Doha comes in handy. š Swati shows her step cut hair and talks of a certain Deepak and the song, "Keh do ki tum meri ho warna..." Munna playing cricket with paper Ball and a stick perhaps ruler an D Pandit eating out of the tiffin reminds me of my school chaos before morning bell. That's one scene moved me a lot. (And I guess I'll be saying this to a lot of scenes ā¤ļø)
To Naina's surprise, Sanjay Tebriwal tops the maths test but he doesn't seem happy. Naina spots the mistake Shanti Teacher did and she is the topper, like always. Sanjay seemed happy that Naina topped. He has a crush on her or what? Hmm. Interesting. And not to forget, Shanti Teacher seems to be one warm teacher, the way she appreciates Naina is heart warming.
"Ek main thing Jo ek mark ke liye mari Jaa Rahi thi aur ek wo tha jise Apne Jaan ki koi parwah hi nahi thi." On the skates enters Sameer, the hero. I have seen a lot of entries, from chopper to lavish cars to just hero jogging in the park and what not, but on skates? That's cool! That entire scene is dangerous as well as scenic. And ends, funnily on Principal's car š
(The gifs credit goes to Chaaru. Thank you so much Sweetie š¤)We are also introduced to Naina's family. Bela Chachi, who's this fun middle aged woman who likes to dance on 'Salam-e-ishq' and filmy but is scared, no, perhaps, out of respect does it when no one is around. Tayji, who looks regressive and bit more like someone who took 'Tradition' in a wrong way. That little scene is funny as well as foresight of what future holds when it comes to Tayji?
Naina tells of her marks and Bela does look happy. We are seen an eager Pooja who seems really excited to get married. We are also shown how Bela admires Pooja's beauty but thinks Preeti is dark in complexion, a racist thought but then, that's reality somehow. She also feel Naina isn't very beautiful and her Dad doesn't have much money to give in dowry. Anyway, fun thing was, "Jaisa Chachaji aapko le aaye waise humein bhi koi le jaayegi." 𤣠The innocence with which she says made it funnierš.
And Preeti, she's trying to make 17 out of 7 for her parentsš. I already love her. She does lie and seems naughty but has this cuteness. I'm glad Naina did help her indirectly by telling her to use Ball pen. I want both the sisters to have the same bondingā¤ļø.
Sameer is shown to be pacing in front of Principal's cabin. Car pe land hone ki saza Milne wali hai. It seems good to see that Sameer saved his 'friends' but I must say, woh dono dosti ke layak nahi the. They should have told Principal. And that intensity with which Sameer looks at Principal, I can see a twinkle in his eyes, something I rarely find in people. That intensity was very strong and something to cherish.
Two good things happen, Sameer runs away from his boarding and hops on a train to Ahemdabad, to his Nanu. That train journey makes me wonder, train journeys are best things in life, seriously. It just calms you down like anything. Just looking outside and seeing life that perhaps you will never be able to live by is heart warming. You become more thankful of everything you have. Train journey gives you tons of stories and memories to cherish for life. Why saying this? I went on one this Saturday and it just did wonders to me (few people here would know how stressed I was a day before).
(Sorry the photo isn't clear enough but the view was.š³) Anyway, Dish was put in Naina's home and they were dancing only to be seen by Tayji and Tauji. That entire scene was well put but painful to see how Naina isn't allowed to even dance just because she doesn't have a mom. That's when Anand Chachaji comes and shields her. He already seems so progressive a parent and lovable an Uncle.
Then, the market scene, and that first 'Tohfa', a chewing gum in hair. I would have killed the person if someone did that to me. I wonder will Naina ever get to know in future that it was Sameer, or with Sameer know what he did to Naina's hair? That will be interesting to see.
All in all, the first episode was beautifully put and the essence of 90s was gracefully shown. Loved it to the core, every bit of it was screaming perfection. The voiceover was the best thing in the episode and I wonder where is Sameer's voiceoverš. Looking forward to the next episode.š
PS: You all can discuss that episode here but don't give anything about next episode or future episodes please.š³ Also, let go of grammatical and other errors.
