Marigold is called the "Herb of The Sun" and it is also called Mary's Gold. This flower has a significant presence in both Hindu and Christian culture. The flower stands on a stiff strong stalk opening out to face the sun. In fact I feel, like sun flower Marigold also represents sun. Like every entity on this planet , this flower also has its strength and weakness. If it represents cruelty and jealousy then at the same time it represent passion , creativity and has a divine side too. This flower is used in every occasion which significe anything that is larger than life. If the petals of this flower is used to depart the soul from this planet , then this flower is also used during weddings, to celebrate the presence of a new member in the family and festivals ... the point to understand is, its presence is there during every auspicious occasion and it is offered to a divine entity.
While sitting in landscape classes at college I never looked at this flower beyond it cultural significance ,medicinal value or the abundance with which it was available. Never thought that later years in life I will be able to see the use of Marigold to signify a symbolic moment in a love story...well that is life rt ?? When we study different subjects we never know how the topics that we studied are going to make its presence in our life or how we are going to use it to our benefit. While we study we just do it in the hope of getting a degree and a good job. But slowly as we start living our life education paves its way in different form and in different dimensions.
Yesterday when I watched that scene , I felt the moment was cute. But one look at the flower she offered to him gave a different dimension to whole scene. He accepted it from her stamping his approval on their relationship. Not just as Sameer's family but as her brother too.
Once Nanu left this world for Sameer its been Munna and Pandit. Especially Munna played a crucial role in his life. There were times when we saw Munna being able to control Sameer even when his own mom couldnt . Munna is like a mom. He is blind when it comes to Sameer , all he wants Sameer's happiness. I know people might think can Munna be greater than his own mom? All I can say is , True relatives are not the one connected thru blood but thru heart. He has guided him and stood by him. When Sameer was going the wrong way he slapped him and brought him back on the path of righteousness. He doesnt hate Naina, just that he knew Naina's weakness and he was scared if this weakness would cause further pain in future for his Foster Son cum Friend Sameer.
Naina loves Munna like her own brother, but she always thought Munna is not just Sameer's friend but also hers. Why not ??she and Munna was studying together for long rt? Her statement that you are not just Sameer's friend but mine , you brought Sameer back for me and then went on to say..I will prove not only my love but my friendship for you also significe what she thought about Munna in her life. The way she asked Sameer to stay out of the relationship she share's with Munna clearly establishes her core character. Here also we get to see Naina's possessiveness not just for Sameer but for her friend Munna too. Naina is always scared of loosing relationships. Cant blame her the two people who brought her to this planet had left her . One because of fate and the other out of choice. What Naina didnt understand is Munna is not a friend , he is like a mother for Sameer and what Munna didnt understand is, Munna is also close to her heart. She couldnt believe that Munna couldnt understand the depth of her love for Sameer and doubted her. After all friends are supposed to understand each other rt?
Ah...life is complicated ..if it was that simple then we would forget the one who created us and build this world for us.
I liked the parallels they showed during their acceptance of love to their family . When it came to Naina's side of the family , it was Sameer who spoke to Chacha ji about their love. He was the one who confessed first saying "Hum ek dusare se pyar karthe hain.". He was the one who promised Chacha ji that he will be in control to uphold and safeguard their life ,welfare and image in the society. Was Marigold flower present there ?? Oh yes !! check the background and you will know ...after all it was in the temple rt??
Now when it came to Sameer's side it was Naina who promised Munna that she will stand by Sameer thru out her life, no matter what the situations are in life. Was there Marigold ?? Oh Yes!! In fact she offered it to Munna for his blessing on their relationship.
Now , remember the promises given by Sameer and Naina to Chacha ji and Munna. The beauty of the promises that were given to Chacha ji and Munna is that , they were not meant for Chacha ji and Munna, these were meant for Sameer and Naina ,which will help these two to stand by each other when they will face challenges in life. These promises will make them uneasy to go away from each other, it will remind them of what it is to loose each other in life. These promises are tight ropes that will bind them for life , help them come out of their insecure self , teach them to be calm and patient
and above all give them confidence to trust each other blindly.
They will stand together like the stiff , courageous and mighty Marigold opening up to the Sun. No scorching sun will destroy them nor any storm can wither them when they stand together bound by these promises. No wonder Marigold is called "HERB OF THE SUN"
