Part 12
After having their lunch and a coffee with Munna and Swati, after they came back from the movie hall, it was almost 5 in the evening, when Sameer and Naina came back home. They went to their room, grabbed their clothes and Naina went inside the bathroom to change, while Sameer changed in the room.
After she was done, Naina shouted from the bathroom, "Sameer, tumne change kar liya ho to ab gate kholo bahar se."
"Band hi nahi kiya maine, kholunga kaise?" he joked. Naina came out of the bathroom. "Aaj apni izzat ki fikar nahi hui? Maine pehle khol liya hota to?" she mocked him, walking towards the bed, sitting on the corner of her side of bed, with a pillow on her lap.
"I.. wouldn't hv minded that!" Sameer flirtatiously stated, earning a "Shut up!" by Naina, paired with a smack on his chest by the pillow.
"Bhale hi zyada waqt nahi hua hai ek dusre ko jane, lekin itna to tumhe samajhta hu" he said, smiling at her, moving to his side of the bed. It had become their habit that everyday, Naina would change her clothes in the bathroom while Sameer would change in the room. And Naina always asked him if he was done, before opening the door. He would unlock the door from his side and then she would come out.
"Huh! Ye to bas coincidence hoga. Warna ladkiyon ko samajhna itna easy nahi hai." she stated, "Aur mujhe samajhna to bilkul nahi."
Sameer chuckled, "Tum sach mein ye sab mujhe keh rahi ho! Tumhe pata nahi hai mujhe kitna experience hai is field mein. Meri kitni girlfriends rahi hai iski to main ginti bhi bhul gaya" he tried to sound casual and nonchalant.
Naina scanned him from top to toe. He was confused, "Kya hua?"
"Soch rahi hu kya dikha unhe tum mein?" she asked, breaking into giggles by the end of the sentence.
He frowned, "Wo tumhari tarah chidne ki jagah logo ki positive baaton pe dhyan deti h wo sab."
"Dekho.. " she began but was interrupted by a knock on the door of their room. Sameer ordered "Pehle tum ye dekho ki kaun aya h" What an escape! he thought.
Naina made a face at him, got up from the bed and went to open the door. She was surprised to see Shalu aunty standing at the door. She looked at Sameer and then again looked back at Shalu aunty. "Aunty, aap.. Koi problem hai kya?" Naina questioned, confused.
"Problem kya hogi? Mera ghar hai, main jab chahu jahan chahu aa-ja sakti hu." Shalu aunty curtly said. "Matlab aunty, aapko humse kuch kaam tha?" Sameer interrupted the ladies, giving Naina some time to calm down her rising temper at Shalu aunty's strange hatred for her. What wrong had she done to this woman!
"Wo aaj Sunday hai, to tumhare uncle ne pasta banaya hai. To wo tum dono ko bhi bula rahe hai khane ke liye." Shalu aunty informed Sameer and he smiled at her, "Hum bas paanch minute mein aa rahe hai."
As soon as Shalu aunty left, Sameer closed the door and sighed in relief. Naina too slumped on the bed, "Mujhse to acche se baat hi nahi karti" she frowned. "Tum dono pichle janam ke dushman ho" Sameer laughed, "Ab chalo, kuch khane ko to mile" he continued, forwarding his hand to help her get up. She held his hand, stood up and sulked, as they went outside. A smile was plastered on Sameer's face seeing her antics.
They were standing near the dining table, when Sameer sniffed, "garlic se kuch bana rahe h kya uncle?" he muttered to Naina, and she shrugged.
From the kitchen, Shalu aunty came out with some garlic bread in a plate, and her husband, Inder, had the frying pan full of white sauce pasta, in his hand. They placed the food in the dining table and seated themselves on the chairs. Inder uncle saw Sameer and Naina standing, giving him amused looks. "Aap log khade kyu ho, please baithiye aur ye khana chakh kar bataiye ki kaisa bana hai?" Inder uncle smiled at them.
Sameer and Naina smiled back at him and sat on the chairs. Uncle served himself pasta, then to Shalu aunty, and then passed the entire pan to Sameer and Naina, who chuckled, taking the pan from his hands. Naina picked up two garlic breads, one for her and passed the other to Sameer, who refused, "I hate garlic!!" and scrunched his nose. Shalu aunty immediately looked up at them, narrowing her eyes. "Umm yeah.. Main bhul gyi thi" Naina covered up.
"Kaisi lagi dono dishes, khane layak ban gayi?" Inder uncle asked excitedly. "Garlic bread ka pata nhi, pasta to khane layak hai" Sameer quipped, taking some more pasta in his mouth. Inder uncle laughed at Sameer's comment, while Naina nudged him with her elbow. "Kuch bhi. Uncle, dono chizein sach mein bohot acchi bani h."
"Uncle, aap roz khana banate ho aunty ke liye?" Sameer asked casually. Uncle chuckled, "Ye to mera shaukh hai jo ki tumhari aunty ke lakh mana karne par bhi main pura kar hi leta hu." Shalu aunty shook her head while Naina couldn't help but smile at how jovial he was.
"Puri kitchen ka naksha bigad dete hai har Sunday." Shalu aunty complained seriously, but Inder uncle was nowhere near to being serious, he questioned, "mere hath ke bane khane se zyada pyaara hai tumhara kitchen!" Sameer and Naina giggled at the couple. The strict wife and her carefree husband.
Sameer served himself some more pasta, when uncle said, "Accha, ye to hui humari baat. Ab aap apni bataiye... Aap dono ki shaadi kaise hui?" He dropped the spoon, thankfully not the pan. Naina too choked on her food.
"Sh..shaadi..waise hi jaise.. sab ki hoti hai" Sameer stammered. Inder uncle laughed it off, "Mera matlab tha ki love marriage hui ya arranged?"
"Love" "Arranged" came Sameer and Naina's spontaneous but opposite answers. Sameer bit his tongue while Naina mentally face-palmed. Uncle and aunty stared weirdly at them. Shalu aunty's gaze was becoming scrutinising.
Naina was about to speak, but Sameer held her hand, signalling her to be quiet. "Mere liye love, iske liye arranged" he clarified.
"Wo kaise? Tum dono ki shaadi ek dusre se hi hui h na" uncle joked, making Naina's eyes go wide. She looked at Sameer, nervousness written all over his face. She tried to assure him through her eyes. "Umm.. Sameer shaadi se pehle se mujhse pyaar karta tha, lekin mujhe ye nahi pata tha. Phir iski family hi rishta lekar aa gayi, to shaadi ho gayi. To iske liye love aur mere liye arranged." she saw him fidgeting with the fork, so she held his hand to stop that. She didn't want uncle or aunty to sense their nervousness. It gave Sameer a strange calm feeling, as he stared at their hands.
"Arey waah! Kahan mile the? College mein?" uncle enquired further, making them bit nervous. "Ahm..Ahmedabad mein.. Hum dono Ahmedabad se hai na" Naina answered, trying her best to not look nervous or scared.
"To Mumbai mein kyu rehte ho?" came Shalu aunty's question this time.
"Job.. Mumbai mein job hai, career hai.. Shaadi hote hi Mumbai aa gaye hum dono." Naina saved them this time too, faking a smile at Shalu aunty.
"Shaadi ko kitne saal ho gaye?" Shalu aunty threw another question at them.
"Do"
"Chaar"
Naina covered up, "Do hi to hue hai. Tumhari maths hi weak hai. Huh!" She leaned towards Sameer and whispered, "Tum please kuch mat bolo. Let me handle it!" Sameer gave a slight nod.
"Aur..." Shalu aunty was ready with another question but Inder uncle stopped her, "Ab question answer yahin khatam karte hai" Sameer and Naina sighed in relief.
All of them had finished their food. "Thank you so much uncle, humein bulane ke liye" Naina thanked Inder uncle as she got up, along with Sameer, and walked towards their room. As soon as they were inside the room, Sameer took her in a quick hug, stunning her. "Aaj to jhoot pakda jata humara! Tumne bacha liya" he was horrified, but calmed down when she placed her hand on his back, "It's OK"
When she felt him relax, she parted from the hug and continued, "lekin phir kabhi aisa kuch ho to tum please chup rehna. Warna aaj ki tarah gadbad karoge. Ladkiyan ghumayi h itni, lekin jhoot sambhalna nahi ata!?" She walked towards the bed and lied down.
Completely relaxed with the change of topic, Sameer chuckled, "Kabhi zarurat nahi padi. Jhoot pakad le itni bhi smart nahi thi wo sab." he too lied down on his side of the bed.
"Dekha.. Tabhi tumhe pasand kiya" she giggled, pulling the blanket over her. Sameer frowned, "you can't insult me everytime OK." She giggled again, teasing him. "I can. Isn't that what friends are for?"
"OK enough!" he was serious now.
"Accha sorry" she held her ears, making him smile. "Ab so aur sone do. Good night! Aur please light band kar do, main karna bhul gayi." she closed her eyes, trying to sleep.
Sameer switched off the tubelight and switched on the night bulb. He came back to his place and lied down again, facing Naina. He was just smiling at how calm she looked while sleeping, whereas actually she was an angry bird, who got irritated at every small thing he did. Her eyes, which she would roll everytime he did something weird, looked beautiful actually, even if they were closed. He let out a chuckle at this. He did not realize when his gaze shifted from her eyes, to her nose, her cheeks, her lips. He shook his head, warning himself, "Kya kar raha hai! Ise pata chala to kha jayegi tujhe!" and turned his face the other side and closed his eyes.
