Hello Doc! Agree word by word with you on Rakesh- he's just a self-centered man. He's a failure, but sees his son as the path to name, fame n riches..Frankly saying, I don't like him- that guy is crass. He's a very orthodox mindset. The only time I liked him was after Naina saved Sameer's Nanu, n took the beatings from Kumud teacher- Rakesh put a hand on her forehead- that was the first time I saw a genuine expression of his care towards his daughter.
For Arjun, do agree on most of the points. Yes, he's a chicken and Taiji n Rakesh are trying their best to brainwash him with their orthodox mindset- love is wrong, it's always a girl's fault, out-going girls are not of good character. However, I do see a fine young man beneath that. And that's where Shefali comes in. I noticed a few times after he met Shefali, he started to understand a different point of view, her POV- eg. when Rakesh says tumhe mera naam roshan karna hai Arjun, he says, main hi kyun papa, Naina aur main dono karenge. Though Rakesh shuts him up at this, that was a first. He would always feel bad for Naina, but this was the first time he spoke up in her favour. Then the Meghaben incident, Arjun understood that he's being taught ludicrous things and that it was not Megha's fault. When this happens with his own sister, he will be more clear on this piece. I slowly see Arjun's thinking getting widened. He apologized to Shefali for not scolding the boys insulting her on the cricket ground. I think he has been taught not to speak against or fight against the norms. Though he's taking baby steps, he understands Shefali is right.
For Naina- yeah she did bend the rules for her family, but then she did so for Sameer too. I feel she too like Arjun needs to find her voice to speak out against her family when they are wrong. I guess this guilt will someday trigger Naina's own guilt about hiding the truth from Sameer. I would like Sameer to ask her why did she not trust him if she loved him so much. But then it's Sameer who will change this in her and empower her to stand up for what is correct. Naina never used to lie, but then she did not have the guts to speak out the truth in front of her dad- post the paper stealing incident, n then before that when Rakesh caught her teaching Sameer. Sameer was really angry at her for refusing to tell the truth n conveniently letting the blame lie on him. He was absolutely right there.
Yes for Sameer- he is one character I have actually admired from a long time. Yes, he had been misled, but despite being shunned by his own mother, a part of a dysfunctional family, no love and attention, he has his heart n his brain in the right place. He never took undue advantage of anyone- not even Kamya that day. That impressed me. It's like our exterior perceptions are sometimes way different from what we truly are. Same applies to both Naina and Sameer. So beyond the carefree lad is a Sameer who is responsible, caring and bold enough to accept his folly and stand up for what is right. Naina triggered this hidden Sameer to come to the fore.
As for Rakesh- Sameer, yeah I guess that is going to be a typical Sasur-damaad relation- upar se sweet maybe, andar se not so much, unless Rakesh is forced to change his mindset someday and realizes what blunders he has committed in his life.
On a funny note, Rakesh might agree to Naina and Sameer's marriage, just because Sameer comes from a rich, influential family, so he might be able to flaunt- look my damaad is so rich, such a good family n all that...😆 but I think if the story goes to that extent, Sameer might have to prove himself, stand-up on his own feet to win Naina n her family over- something like MPK...
