Hi all,
In my resolve to make a few topics worth debating, this is the first one.

When we were/ are teenagers , our parents often disapprove of certain boys/girls who we should avoid being friends with. Our extrovert friends were often described as " Wrong comapany , the one that'll spoil us"

Shefali is such stereotype friend in the show. She wears hot clothes, puts on make-up, comes from a divorced family and is always looked down upon by O-bai Taiji.
She is shown encouraging Naina in her love story and always gives daring advice.

Is the show stereotyping the old notion that a studious girl gets spoiled when she befriends someone like Shefali?

PS - Which school does Shefali go to? She is never seen doing anything ?!!

I don't think the show is trying to say that Shefali is spoiling Naina. In fact, Shefali is supposed to be a strong and positive character. The VO has mentioned that for a 90s girl, she has a lot of fire and courage in her. Shefali represents those few people of every generation who dare to be different without worrying about an outsider's opinion.

Here comes your first hot-topic!! It's quite interesting😊
I don't think one can spoil us if we hv enough self-control..control nhi ho to dost kya gossips sun k bhi bacche bigad jate h

N regarding Shefali spoiling Naina..till now it has been shown as Shefali encourages Naina to be confident..she too knows what is right n wrong..she hasn't given her any wrong advice till now..so I don't think d show is showing it as Shefali Naina ko bigad rhi h

I believe a strong and outgoing friend can only help us become stronger ourselves.

Shefali has so far only given Naina some practical advice ( like when she asked her to find out if Sameer has any feelings for her before deciding to not go to that boarding school) and allowed Naina to use her as a sounding board.

Having said that, I have so far not understood why she is not out there getting an education.. her mother is a manager with Air India so obviously the importance of being educated and financially independent has to be a priority in that household. Nor have they implied at any point that she is older to Arjun by s few years and hence has already completed her graduation. She wants to become a sportsperson but has not been shown to be actually involved in any sport other than the recently started coaching with Arjun.
I don't think the CWs have handled that part of the story well..

Nice topic👏
Naina's family being outrightly orthodox and believing divorce to be a taboo in those days along with Shefali being a christian...all these things make them believe that Shefali is much different from Naina who is supposed to be full on sanskari girl.👏

But I do believe that having friends who think in a different way isn't wrong till the time you can decide for yourself whats right and whats not...Naina I believe is that type of girl...maybe Shefali is shown to be Jhansi ki Rani of their mohalla but she has a very sharp mind and she helps Naina with her advices always...they have been shown to know each other as pen friends before actually meeting each other...so probably they became friends at heart much before they saw each others pics even...

Shefali is the type of girl who would do anything to help her friend..😊

I personally don't believe that friendship with such people is wrong but it all depends on how we percieve that person😊

I used to be a Shefali 😆 Some of my extended family always thought I was a bad girl because of the "western " clothes I used to wear 😕 . Never did anything asanskari though !

It's interesting how Shefali and naina are totally contrasting characters in terms of clothes etc. Naina is having a fling / love affair secretly while Shefali is more open about it. In the end both are behaving like normal teenagers , discovering love and there is a lot in common between the two. No wonder Shefali is the only one that naina can confide in ( besides swati)
Naina would have gone ahead with sameer even if shefali hadn't suggested, but she will still get blamed for being bad company when the family finds out .
Tayiji indulges in more immoral behavior than Shefali, reading chachiji's private letters, being nosy, hypercritical , lying, bullying and everything else. But no, Shefali is the bad girl only because she wears "nickers
