Why this show is better than most

Hey y'all, I'm kind of new in this forum, been silently lurking here for a while now, and really surprised to see this forum suddenly so active as compared to the last time i was here👏
So I'm here to give my opinions as to why this show pulled me back into the tv world. I haven't really followed any shows in past 1-2 years but YUDKBH was a straight Go for me. I saw the initial promo, which looked really cute but i expected it to be some cliched/silly/teenage drama, going by how usual tv shows go. But one day i randomly caught one episode (the one where Sameer stole her shoes) and haven't looked back since! It was nothing like i expected, it was like a breath of fresh air, no heavy make up, no high voltage drama, no disney style evil vamps, no over the top expressions. To be honest it seemed too good to be true, i was waiting for someone to break the spell, but luckily the magic is still on.
So the aforementioned things come first as to why this show is soo good-
1.No heavy accessories, no wierd unmatched dressing - accredited to the 90s school setting, no OTT expressions or disney villians.

2. Beautifully narration, which mellows down any dramatic scene to a realistic level, adds more intrigue to the whole story and ofcourse all the 'Yeh un dino ki baat hai jab...'s , can't really say they make me nostalgic, as being a 1995 born malayali, my earliest childhood memories are of 2000 and they are much different from the way things were in Ahmadabad, but it paints a very beautiful picture of a simpler time.

3. Then ofcourse the 90s setting (which could have gone both ways, but beautiful it remained) The songs, the dressing, the talks, movie references... I almost wanna time travel back to the 90s. And the school setting is an additional plus, each classroom mischief evokes a memory.

4. Then there are the characters, it very rarely that we get some very innocent yet flawed yet lovable characters either in the leads or in the supporting characters. But this show has achieved to establish such very relatable qualities in almost every character. Nobody is too good nor too bad, this again brings it further from fiction and closer to reality

5. Then pairing. Every popular show has a wonderful lead pair who's chemistry keeps us hooked to the show, but tell me how often does this happen that a good chunk of viewers are equally excited by the multiple parallel pairings! Munna-Swati, Arjun-Shefali, Pandit-Preeti, they could give us seperate shows about these individual pairs and i would jump right in! And that is the most satisfying thing about this show, so far there wasn't any filler scenes or characters, every little bit of the episode we get is wholesome entertainment.

6. The casting, all of them look tailor made for their roles. Everyone looks so natural in the character and the on-screen bonding comes out so good, especially Sameer-Naanu. It shows how much effort must have gone into assembling this cast.

All these things are what rejuvenated television for me, its really a revolution of sorts, thank you Makers of YUDKBH and Sony TV.

I completely agree on all your points, very well said! Here are my thoughts below what I posted a few months back:
I certainly didnt expect someone like me to be getting into this show esp as I cant stand romance indian style. But here you have exactly that.. no, only better you might say! This wonderful show is so authentic and contrary to what one may think upon knowledge of this show being about college days. ie teenage soppy love yet the soppyness is non existent so far.
Allow me to further indulge..
The cheesy filmy songs of those times displaced and recontextualised to fit to this narrative is such a lovely idea and becomes quite poetic from this angle especially as the shows characters feel real and close to heart, not at all like the. larger than life caricatures seen in the movies and tv serials.
So even though the show claims inspiration rooted in 90s it has the authentic feel of the era from its innocence, simplicity and honesty in its characters and handled so sensibly without being tacky. Perhaps its the idealism that has been here captured in a subtle manner...of course the 90s culture toyed with idealism and were evocative of it through the plethora of dreamy sequences/songs. Yet here there is no compromise for realist events or occurances whereby the leads cross paths, thankfully. Those lovely innocent feelings of being infatuated or fixated on someone is conveyed beautifully by Naina.
The beauty of it is that its so relatable, some aspects are true to what life was like in 90s that you need not by any stretch of imagination travel too far- we've all been there some way or another right? That 1 sided yearning for our school crush..
What i enjoy about this show is it doesnt seek to dramatise or feel a need to heighten the circumstances in which the 2 leads meet again n again with the exception of the background 90s songs superimposed on the seemingly natural encounters perhaps to embody the inner state of Naina in her fantasyland. And that is really the only exaggeration amid a very natural unfolding of events and authentic characters. Yet even so it feels like a self reflexive moment the show undertakes as it considers the farfetchedness of ideas of love.
I particularly like the fact that Sameer and Naina are quite far apart in terms of their nature and behaviour, he exhibits some rebellious traits while she is the obedient law abiding school girl and hes so oblivious to her to the point of poking fun and teasing her and her ways. It works well to tell the story this way because he is seemingly unaffected which is debatable seeing as her presence has proved to grate on him somewhat however negatively while she is just lost in her own world. Furthermore you read a lot 'in between the lines' from a few stolen glances shared between the leads, this definitely has more impact imo than when things are literally spelt out. onscreen for the viewer.

A nice post indeed 👏
I have been waiting for some realistic show without OTT drama and silly vamps and family politics and my search ended after I saw the 6th episode of the show and there's no looking back since then😃
I just love the show...the actors characters along with a beautiful narration by Sadia Siddiqui 👏⭐️

Welcome to the forum swetha... happy to see another malayali in this forum ...me beign one...

Agree with each and every point of yours...
The most unique thing inthus show is that...who ever watch even a si how episode of this show couldn't resist to watch more...
Me too didn't follow this show from the very first episode...
It was through YouTube...as I was a beyhadh lover...got the notification of this show after 2 weeks...
I can't believe... I just thought several times to not to watch it...couldn't bear another drama...
But phir bhi after getting several times ... thght to give a chance...
To be honest ... that was one of the best things I have done so far...I was totally impressed by the first episode itself...and with a Saturday and Sunday I completed whole 9 episodes ...so that I catch it on tv from that Monday...

The first things that attracted me is of course... sadiya jis voice...the narration...and nostalgia...it felt like I am narrating my childhood...
The second thing is the innocence of characters...be it naina..preethi...swathi...they so look like school children and their natural acting...
Beautiful bg... I just get lost in to some other world when I listen to them...
So natural way of building up story with equal amount of drama and so innocent portrayal of feeling the first love by naina...to be honest she has done it soo well that we can connect to it...
Coming to pairing...each and every pair and each every character are treat to watch...none bores me till date...

Even though I have a lot more to say...I think I should stop it now...😆😆

Hi shweta welcome to the forum..
I cannot say how much I loved this post..

I agree with each of your points mentioned,
Don't have much to add but I would like to share how I got addicted to the show..

Well before the show started there was an article on IF that a show will be coming which is based in the 90's and I saw the promo in that article..
I instantly liked it as I being born in the late 80's have my childhood memories of the 90's and could relate to exactly what was shown..

I thought I will definitely watch it once it is aired..
Then being busy with kids I forgot about it.. and one day a friend from IF told me that Di do watch this show and I asked her oh did it start and it was I guess some 7 or 8 episodes old..

I started surfing the channel and got hold of the episode where praLay was doing some thing on the road when chachi chachi and girls came to eat pani puri..

From that day there was no looking back.. not only me but my 6 year old and 3 year old are also hooked onto the show.. and they keep on humming the title track 😆

Initially I disliked too many dream sequences but now it's ok..

Every part of the episode be it the home sequences I like to watch them all.

And also the show would have been incomplete without the beautiful VO and beautiful laugh of Sadia Siddiqui..

Well like u I have too much to write but I guess I should stop..

P.S. the perfect songs used fas per the situations is a winning formula..

Pure Nostalgia this show is.
