I have stayed in a joint family as well and although I was a teenager in late nineties and early 2000s but the first time I stepped out of my house alone (which was to a so called shopping complex when I was 17)

We all were scolded for small things, cant even think today's kids being punished that way but that was all because of love not because they didn't love us

Chacha Chachi are more modern that Tayaji Taiji thats it

Parents used to be very strict in those days. I had a friend whose mother would listen to her phone conversations on the parallel line whenever she spoke to friends.

Atleast no one is doing that in Naina's house.

(Ironically that friend of mine fell in love with a guy of another caste and had a Arya Samaj wedding 😆)
