Delhi
Vishwanathan Iyer paced back and forth in the hospital corridor anticipating the moment he would finally be able to hold his little angel in his arms and shower her with all the love in his heart. He was called in by the nurse to whom he happily gave a 20 000 Rupees whilst she just muttered a "thanks" in a soft tone and congratulated him walking off to prepare for necessities to bathe the baby.
Vishwanathan walked into the baby ward and glanced over at his baby girl who he wanted to hold close to his chest and fill his heart with the warmth of love and gratitude but refrained as she was sleeping; her angelic form too adorable, to disturb. Madhavi admired his love for their girl with moistened eyes and offered thanks to Murugun for a safe delivery despite the many complications.
Soon the nurse came back and took the Mother and baby so both could take a bath. Meanwhile, Vishwanathan offered thanks to Murugun and prayed that he could be blessed with the capacity to provide for his girl, all that she would ever ask of him.
In another part of Delhi, in a much cheaper hospital Om Prakash Bhalla and wife Santosh Bhalla were rejoicing the birth of their son. The Bhalla's prayed that they could provide the best of all for their son: basic food and drink, a healthy, stable environment and an education with which he could get a reputed job.
Today, two children were born who were destined to become life partners. On the one hand where the girl's father wanted to put the world at his daughter's feet the other's parents just prayed for him to become a respected name in society and achieve all that they failed to.
The question is, however, that how will these two be bound in a relationship for a lifetime when the fact is that they belong to two very different backgrounds with absolutely no match to each other!
23 YEARS LATER
Vishwanathan wanted to make his daughter's birthday the best he could as he knew that even if ONE thing wasn't the way she liked she would cause all hell to break loose. He screamed and shouted at the decorators, caterers and they ran from one place to the other trying to do their jobs to the best of their abilities as not to disappoint Vishwanathan's princess, Ishita!
Ishita descended from the stairs carrying a gorgeous pink and maroon gown dress. She was a plump girl who unlike all 'other' girls didn't care much about her weight. Why would she care anyways!? Her father never let anyone utter a word against her and knowing Ishita's nature, it was better to stay mum than to become victim to her anger!
She excitedly ran over to her Appa and he took her in a hug; blessing Ishita. Meanwhile, the only thing on her mind was her 'gifts'. Innocently pouting her lips she spoke "Appa mera gift do na!" Whilst he asked the house help to get the gift. The help came back soon enough and handed over a massive gift, all wrapped up. Ishita looked on surprised and unwrapped the gift to see a photo of her late Mother. She walked over to the nearest wall and hanged it there running to hide herself in her Appa's embrace. He stroked her hairs and asked "aap apne Appa ki ek baat maano ge Ishu?" whilst she replied in a "hmmm?"
Vishwa decided that he would talk to Ishu as soon as the party wrapped up and told her to enjoy with her friends.
Here, Ishita was merrily chattering away with Ashok who had just landed from the UK, perfectly in time for her birthday. Ishita was always, extremely excited to be around Ashok because he bought her gifts from different parts of the world. She was smitten by his exciting life and wanted the same for herself. Being the only daughter to an affluent father, she was mostly kept indoors and made to live a pretty simple life. Vishwa was dangerously protective of her being a single father but she, felt stifled. She wanted to live life on her own terms and Ashok was the man who could provide her with everything. She decided to talk to her Appa on this matter with full confidence he would never deny. Yet, she had no clue what her father was up to.
It was quite late in the night and Vishwa and Ishita were in their rooms each wondering if they should leave the convo to the next morning. However, Ishita was too impatient to leave it for the next day.
Ishita walked into Vishwa's room but before she could say a word, her father took over the conversation and spoke "Ishu beta aapse bahut zaroori baat karni hai" turning a deaf ear to his words, she interrupted "Appa mujhe Ashok se shaadi karni hai! Aap Anand Uncle ko abhi phone karro aur unhe bataao"
Vishwa ruffled her hair and tried to reason "Ishu, Beta ladki waale aisi baatein nahi karte. Woh ladke waalein hain agar unhe Ashok ke liye aap pasand aaye toh hi yeh baat aage badh payegi warna ..."
Ishita hated to hear a no and she took no excuses.
"Aap abhi unko phone karro aur baat karro, bas!!"
Vishwa was losing his calm. He didn't have the heart to refuse his girl but he knew that even though they belonged to the same social class, Ashok wasn't a good guy and Anand had broken many secrets of his countless affairs to Vishwa. He didn't want his daughter to lead a miserable life therefore announcing his decision in a calm demeanour, yet not revealing his reason to reject Ashok
"Beta aapka Appa hone ke naateh main aaj aapke liye ek bahut ahem faisla lene jaa raha hoon ..."
Ishita just ran out the room not caring to even wish her father a good night. She entered her room, slumped onto her bed and slept off with a tear stricken face.
The next morning the duo woke up and settled onto the dining table; Ishita not even bothering to take a glance at her father.
Vishwa initiated a conversation
"Ishu Beta main aapka father hoon aur meri responsibility hai ke jiss insaan se aapki shaadi ho, woh ek acha insaan ho!"
Busy eating her breakfast, still not bothering to look up into her Appa's eyes "Ashok bhi toh kitna acha hai Appa! Mere liye hamesha nayi, nayi cheezein laata hai saari countries se!" she exclaimed like a little kid who'd just got her favourite candy!
Vishwa just adored the innocence of his Kanna and with tears brimming in his eyes, asked the house help to get Ishita ready for tonight whilst Ishita sat crossed arm, her anger knowing no limits.
