For the first time in her acting career, Anita Hassanandani Reddy played a vamp in 'Yeh Hai Mohabbatein', but some time later she turned positive in the TV show. Now with the many twists and turns, it seems like the spunky actress may take the negative path again in the show. Excerpts from an interview:
The big question on everyone's minds " Are you going to turn negative again on your TV show 'Yeh Hai Mohabbatein'?
Yes! And I'm glad that it is well justified. My character Shagun has been pushed to a level where she can't help but turn negative. I'm super excited because as an actor, it's not only challenging but my role also has a lot of variations.
Some feel negative roles don't suit you. What do you think?
I also thought so earlier. But I'm glad I didn't go with my instinct and went with Ekta's (producer Ekta Kapoor). Shagun has revived my career. It is the most challenging role that I have played; it has brought me maximum fame.
Your friend Ekta has become a bua. Have you been to their home recently to meet the baby?
I will be going this week to meet baby Laksshya. Ekta has turned bua, I have turned maasi. We are all on cloud nine!
What about your plans to start a family?
Careerwise, this is my best phase. Also, my husband Rohit is starting his new business, so we don't feel ready yet.
Have you seen him? He looks more like an actor than I do. Jokes apart, he's very proud of me and my achievements. It's never been a problem and never will be.
How do you take care of the male ego, given that the media is bound to focus on you when you are together, say at an event?
His chest just swells up with pride when I get attention. As long as he has all my attention, he's cool (smiles). In fact he's media-friendly too and everyone loves him.
Talking about ego, how does it feel to crush egos on your show 'Comedy Nights Bachao', which is about taking potshots at celebs?
I never thought I would ever be comfortable with insults, but it's all in good taste. I'm not saying this because it's part of my job. What matters is where and how things are said. Like if it's on a comedy show, then it is all in good fun... I don't mean it and I'm sure no one does. In fact, I just love going to shoot for 'Comedy Nights Bachao'. Celebs who come on the show know the format and hence come willingly, they come all prepared. And honestly, there aren't any egos as such; whoever has come till date has been very chilled out. Also, with the likes of Shah Rukh and Salman coming and participating wholeheartedly, the rest of the industry has opened up to the idea of being a part of the show
