He was/is the only actor who had the guts to kick Ekta's ass and still survive as one of the iconic heroes of Indian TV . he is too classy and sophisticated for the ekta kapoor crap and serials where the shows are female centric.

Rajeev's shows are usually centered around him, even when he did balaji's Kahin Toh Hoga, it was more about him and his character unlike any other balaji serial.

He is a fabulous actor, only KP can be compared with him in this industry though KP is 8 years junior to him. To be honest, KP and RK are far better than many top Bollywood stars.
Oh...another actor had gone against EK in the past...Iqbal Khan, he too is a very good actor.

his previous shows are iconic, both Kahin To hoga and Left right left has his characters written as iconic male leads on Indian tv .

Kahin toh Hoga was balaji's serial, and Rajeev was the protagonist , whose character set a trend for angry young brooding lovers in TV, and later on when ekta kapoor and her CVs tried to butcher Rajeev's character, Rajeev opposed and when he realized that his character will be butchered to glorify the female lead, he chose to quit .

The story was, Sujal ( Rajeev ) and kashish loved each other, but kashish dumps him and marries his best friend piyush to save her father's izzat. after marriage Sujal is accused of trying to break kashish and piyush's marriage and he is thrown out of his house, after which Sujal vows revenge for all the torture he faced. but sudden accident happens and piyush dies, and kashish thinks that sujal killed piyush to win her back and thus she marries him to seek revenge and betrays him in the worst possible manner, for which he later forgives her.

But ekta wanted Sujal to rape kashish's sister to return the betrayal to kashish and then kashish marry sujal's step brother to save sujal's property .. after reading this script Rajeev lost it and he argued with ekta that W*F was ekta trying to do. Ekta slammed his plea and decided to go on with the track, star plus begged Rajeev and ekta to sort out but Rajeev was sure that he cannot be part of such regressiveness onscreen and he left. after that Ekta replaced his character, the show died a very cruel death with no audience left for it

she is a sadist or not who cares. but she just killed the most iconic fandom ever , Sujal Kashish were the very first tv couple to get so much popularity and was the first love story from balaji's end too. Ekta killed everything she herself created. and we, all Rajeev fans were glad that he left the show .. ekta was butthurt and copied Kahin toh hoga's story in many of her shows, esp kasturi which was a rip off of kahin toh hoga ..
