Ishita & Raman's Consummation Sequence Had Every "IshRa" Shade Viewers Love!!!
The last time spamdomain reviewed a passionate scene of any degree was that of Paro and Rudra's in RangRasiya and now we are back with another scene and this one is from Star Plus popular show Yeh Hai Mohabbatein coming from the Balaji Camp. Yes this is about Ishita and Raman popular known as IshRa and the recent consummation scene that went on air on Friday.
IshRa's relationship, their marriage their equation has always been different. They decided to get married for the sake of Ruhi. Sure they couldn't stand each other after having already formed their own opinions but their love for a 6 year old innocent child who was being used as a pawn in a game of power and petty domestic and business politics gave Raman and Ishita the perfect excuse to become Man and Wife. With time Raman's preconceived notion that women are selfish and disloyal changed thanks to his lovely wife Ishita who went above and beyond for their daughter, their family and even him. Similarly Ishita too began to realize Raman was nothing like the Ravan Kumar' she tagged him as and that her husband was capable of loving immensely unlike the faade that he usually puts on and would go to any extent for his loved ones. Hatred changed into mild dislike which turned into a mutual respect which slowly changed into admiration followed by liking and then eventually Love happened. It wasn't a joy ride to say exactly but it made them the couple they are today.
A favorite couple, a popular jodi of the viewers romancing on screen, sharing a passionate kiss, getting locked in a loving embrace is always exciting but when time comes from that favorite jodi to consummate their wedding there is not only excitement but also a curiousness of sorts as to how the makers and the actors doing the scene will justify the act' within the confines of channel/TV broadcasting demands, keep it entertaining and also matching the sensibilities of the audience? Since a Con-Scene is always looked into with scrutiny and talked about as it's something really HUGE there is always a creative challenge to bring out the best and I believe that the team of YHM and the actors Divyanaka Tripathi and Karan Patel have done an amazing job.
I am pretty sure that this sequence wasn't easy for the Creative Team because let's face it 1) They are one of the most popular and loved jodi's on Television and showing anything will not suffice. 2) It's been dragged on for over a year and half that the anticipation quotient was probably over the roof. But I think it's safe to say that the team vested in the making the scene including the actors did not disappoint one bit. From the script to direction to the execution, the camera angles and effects, from the acting to the emoting, the ambiance to the song selection to the morning after everything had a good flow and looked natural and that is not an easy feat to achieve. Jiya dhadak dhadak' (Movie Kalyug) was a very unconventional song selection and perhaps that is why it worked in favor of the scene. It suited IshRa and turned out to be the perfect canvas to showcase their desire for each other and the passion that always burned deep within.
The scene wasn't about what was done, how much was done and in what capacity. As corny as it sounds "Was there too much intimacy?", "Did they have a lip-lock", "Was there too skin-show?" etc are questions that one would have considered had it been any other couple but this was IshRa, there is a certain expectation you have from them... there is a signature IshRa style' you associate them with be it their nokh-jhok, their flirting, their fights any aspect without going overboard or underplaying it and that is exactly what we got in the Con-scene too. More than the deed it's the feeling these two talented actors bring in with their expressions and emotions that makes all the difference. The scene had the IshRa Signature all over it and frankly that is exactly what was needed. IshRa is a unique couple and though the story/show have had it's share of bad-worse days the foundation of YHM and these two principle characters is so damn strong that it reflects even today. You can say without a shadow of doubt that the team really put their heart and soul into it in the beginning to make IshRa the iconic couple they have turned out to be.
The scene was about their feelings, the bottled up love and passion finally coming out in the open and finally removing that one barrier they had between them. They both wanted this union but they have been so badly scarred in the past that bringing this side, taking the much needed leap of faith was never easy. Their entire fights and arguments aside the one dialogue "Mat badal Madras an...please" was a testimony of how scared and scarred Raman was about losing Ishita. True Ishita is and never was anything like his Ex-wife, she has proved herself time and again; but when you have carefully mended your broken heart, even with help (In this case Ishita), the fear of it breaking again always lurks in the back of your mind. Kya karein it just shows you are a mere mortal.
But there is only so much a human being can hold inside of him/her. Raman's already growing frustration over Ishita and her gown that showed off her beauty in a rather sensuous light, fueled by Ishita's slaps paves way for the most memorable nights of the couple's life where they unite physically. Raman is a very volatile character but I am sure he would never raise his hand on a woman. So blinded by rage he pulls off a perfect Alpha' when he passionately kisses Ishita for what she did. One can also say that as annoyed Raman was about Ishita's dressing, he was equally affected by her looking stunningly beautiful as pointed out by many at the party. The kiss may have been to shut her up but somewhere Raman was claiming her, she was his and there was no going two ways about it. It's a 7:30 pm slot, the audience watching the show may not be as open minded to the idea of a lip-lock as those of the 11:00 pm slot but the way the lip-lock was implied was WOW. We may have not seen the kiss but the action aka the way he pulled her like there was no tomorrow and then kissing the living lights out of her- Kudos to Karan Patel for doing a bang on job!!! When you know your craft you know very well how to deliver what is expected of you and sometimes even exceed that expectation.
To recover from the shock that her husband had just kissed her, Ishita moves away from Raman to gather her scattered thoughts and let that feeling, that realization of being kissed sink in which leads to Raman finally cooling down completely and taking the much needed steps towards making Ishita his wife in every sense. Karan and Divyanka are exceptionally expressive actors. To say they have mastered the Art of Expressions' would be a gross understatement. They may not have dialogues in an entire scene and still viewers understand what they are trying to convey. Facial expressions, expressing through eyes and body language you name it and they have nailed it all and here in this particular scene that aspect aka EXPRESSIONS' are what sets the tone of the sequence and the screen on fire. The shot where Raman kisses Ishita's hand by bringing it between them and then painfully slowly brings it back down while Ishita's lower lip gets dragged in the process can be easily tagged as the most sensuous shot in the entire sequence. While Ishita has her eyes shut as she relishes her husband's kisses, Raman looks at his wife with nothing but desire; that it's impossible for that passion to not transpire from across the screen.
IshRa consummate their marriage and here is where it gets more interesting or like I said earlier "IshRa-Like'. Usually after a Con-scene it's the woman who sleeps in the comfort of her man's arms, resting her head in the nook of his shoulders or on his chest, cuddled close to him. But here we have Raman sleeping peacefully in Ishita's arms and on waking up at 4 in the morning that's to her sisters calls she ruffles his hair softly with a soft smile playing on her lips. As individuals both Ishita and Raman are flawed. As a couple thought they compliment and complete each other. However it wouldn't be wrong to say that Ishita has always been that figure who brings in the emotional stability and support to their relationship and this scene symbolizes the same. Later on after Ishita's conversation with her sisters we see Raman roll on to his wife's side and drape his hand over her again symbolic of claiming her as his even in sleep. Ishita looks loving at her husband's holds on his hand and drifts off to a peaceful sleep. In majority of the shows we have seen after a Con-sequence, there is a jump in the timeline where everybody is back to their daily routine like nothing ever happened. Here however we see the proper Morning after' starting from the sun rays seeping into IshRa's room and it was every bit beautiful. Raman wakes up and sees his lovely wife clutching on to his hand and sleeping peacefully and it brings a smile to his face. Raman's biggest fear is Ishita leaving him and he has voiced it to her that he would never survive if that happened, so Ishita holding onto Raman even in sleep was a beautiful gesture because even in her subconscious mind she is not ready to part with him which is why the gesture was every bit symbolic of how she would never let go. What makes the morning after all the more special is the "Ho..kabhi kam na hongi ye chahatein...pal pal badhe, ye hai mohabbatein"; Yes the YHM title track which is custom made for IshRa playing in the background. An IshRa scene is incomplete without their song and it was the perfect way to end the sequence.
Coming to the performances: It's a known fact that Karan and Divyanka share chemistry that even words fail to describe. Being a writer I am required to be proficient with words but coming up with one perfect adjective to describe DiVan's chemistry is a task impossible. They keep redefining it every time they come on screen no matter what the scene is. When portraying Raman and Ishita not once does the thought cross your mind that these are two actors simply doing their job aka acting; because you look at the screen and all you can ever see are Raman and Ishita in their full glory; which concludes that Karan and Divyanka live the characters they are destined to play. They wear it like a second skin and breathe life into it easily making them two of the most brilliant actors we have today.
Viewers have seen and swooned over IshRa scenes but things can get a little tricky when preparing and shooting for a Con-Scene no matter what the degree of intimacy is being filmed. But at no point, not even for a fraction of a second did it look forced or the actors uncomfortable. Karan expressions especially transition from initially being worried for Ishita to being angry, annoyed and hurt even that Ishita couldn't understand him and that he never ever wanted or wants her to change to those of sensual passion, raw desire and want as the sequence progresses after the kiss and Divyanka's expressions of pain, hurt and anger too, to the one of shock, coy, passionate and the most beautiful of it all the blissful content expression which she gives after finally becoming Ishita Raman Bhalla in every sense was simply fabulous. Even through the course of their argument, Raman's declaration of how he liked her just the way she was, Ishita's jealousy, Raman's purposeful taunts to annoy Ishita more-Karan and Divyanka does a splendid job. Like one of my dear friend said "DiVan are just classic and brilliant when it comes to portraying romance subtly and the same time make it passionate".
Last but not the least the title of this article and why I settled on one like this one; well I already stated that the sequence was every bit IshRa like. In addition if you look closely it kinda told their entire journey so far in a rather subtle and non-glaring way. The sequence started off with an argument between the two just like in the beginning of their relationship after which it had every shade, every element unique to IshRa's relationship right from their tease to nokh-jhok to love etc come after one by one and ended with a contented IshRa sleeping together which is exactly where these two are today in terms of love, life, family etc. A rather smart and creative scripting enacted and executed exceptionally well. It was a beautiful sequence and one that has further cemented IshRa's relationship and made their bond stronger.
