Before grad school, the only think I did at home was cut the salad and arrange it into a masterpiece every night. I would literally spend hours doing it like my life depended on it! Mom would say "iss artwork ko ab jaake MoMA mein latkaade." 🤣

Anyway... the gal interviewed Gitanjali Aiyar, Tejeshwar Singh, Salma Sultan and Shammi Narang
SALMA WORE THAT SIGNATURE ROSE under her ear

Salma said she was told NOT to wear it by some, as it "DILUTES the seriousness of a news caster's role". 😲Tch tch tch Doordarshan and its rules🤣 If only they bothered to send the DG of Doordarshan to the US back then they would have seen way more than roses,... cleavage, thighs and what not on news persons here...
I bet DD has loosened up quite a bit now...

I recall, we were too young to be doing that back then but would watch with bated breath when Salma would say "Ab agla samachar RAMAN SE" WITH A COY SMILE. JV Raman wore a wig I think and thick glasses and was stoic... Salma was soft ethereal and elegant...😆 When the news is dull you force the news readers to entertain you...

OMG Nisha, doordarashan days were something. I can still hear the music in my ears when the evening broadcast used to start. We didn't have. ATV in Rourkela but when we came to my naanis in Delhi, we used to be glued. The Sunday movie with the entire mohal a in my grandmothers living room, the much hated krishi darpan and much awaited tabassums phool Khile hain gulshan gulshan.

Does anyone remember a program on DD called Telematches. It used to air on Sunday's and it some sort of crazy competition between teams? No one seems to remember those.

And yes about the newsreader, their sarres were the talk of the town. All said and done the DD newscasters had super diction and sounded great. Salma sultan for hindi and menu talwar for English were hot favorites.
