Part 12
36 hours...
"Good morning Ishita do you know where Raman is?" Lord Khan enquired as Ishita was about to leave the house for the venue.
The feeling of dread which had hung over Ishita since this morning, increased twofold.
"Erm yes uncle. He is at the hotel. He mentioned something about overseeing the arrangements." Ishita lied through her teeth.
"Okay. Can you tell him to call me when you see him please? He's not answering my call and I need to discuss something important with him"
"Yes sure I will. Can I help in any way?"
"No no beta, I'll discuss with Raman. You go ahead"
Lord Khan walked off a little dejected as Ishita looked worriedly for Mahir. She hated this uncertainty and needed to find out exactly what Raman was up to and most importantly where he was. She also needed to get to the venue ASAP.
The discovery of the suspicious package Mahika had mentioned, told Ishita one thing. The assassin was one step ahead of them. And she needed to get to the bottom of things before anything could jeopardise the delegates' meeting at 10 or the nikah at 12, both in the same building.
Time was of the essence.
She texted Mahir as she got into the car, and Bala closed the door behind her.
"Mahir meet me at the wedding hotel in 30 mins"
Somewhere in an underground car park...
"She's on her way, Is everything ready?"
"Yes, I've got her gear"
"The situation could become critical. It's probably a bomb"
"I know"
"My team has cleared the area as much as they could without causing too much alarm but you never know with these things"
"There could be a detrimental effect if the delegates get caught up in any of it. Possibly World War Three, now that both countries have nukes"
"It won't get to that. JKR & RKB are the best. If they are on the case everything will work out"
"Hmm I hope you're right. And it's not as bad as we're thinking it is"
"Yea hopefully"
There was a short pause as both occupants stared ahead at the car park entrance solemnly and waited for Agent JKR to arrive. But as the depth of the situation sunk in, Mahir was compelled to break the silence and express his feelings before it was too late. Or he never got the chance. He turned to face the woman sitting in the passenger seat and began tentatively.
"Agent M...I mean Mahika...I just wanted to say..."
Before he could get any further M interrupted him.
"Don't say anything. Just kiss me"
Taken aback by her boldness but exhilarated at the same time, Mahir didn't need to be told twice. He reached for Mahikas slim form, gathering her in his embrace, and placed his lips onto hers in a gentle yet persistent kiss.
In a dark room somewhere...
Raman was finding it extremely hard to open his eyes. His eyelids felt heavy as if he was drugged and even thinking was too much effort. All he could comprehend was that he was lying down on a soft surface, was he in his bed, he wondered. He had a faint recollection that he had been about to go to bed.
He felt himself drift in and out of consciousness and his head hurt. When he tried to move his body it felt too was lethargic and heavy with his limbs refusing to obey him. His head throbbed with a weird pain and a strange drowsiness overpowered his whole being.
In a hazy state he heard someone call out to him, as if from far away.
It felt so faint that Raman wasn't sure if he really had heard or if his disorientated mind was playing tricks on him. But then he heard it again
"Ra..ma..n...you...love...Is..a...t...?"
In his mind he called out "Ishita!" But in reality his voice hadn't had the strength to travel up his throat and out, past his lips.
The new entrant into the room observed Raman struggle under the influence of a new kind of truth serum.
The file which had been retrieved last night had turned out to be a dud with nothing of importance inside it. Hence this drastic action had to be taken. Seven was convinced that RKBs presence at the wedding had not been coincidental. He must have switched the details before that stupid Dimple had the intelligence to notice.
Well, she had served her propose and now lay in a ditch somewhere. Had she really thought that Adil would have left is fianc for a dumbo like her? Never mind. She had outlived her sell by date.
Dimple's stupid infatuation with Adil had served Seven well. She had given exact locations, keys, information as well as unknowingly helped to set the bomb which would blow up the whole party along with the delegates soon.
But at the last minute RKB had foiled the expertly laid out plan. First by diverting the delegates from the rigged cars and now by exchanging the vital file which the impatient employers were waiting for.
That is what had prevented this assassins' hasty retreat today.
Looking at the heavily drugged figure lying on the queen size bed in the plush hotel room, Seven had an idea of how to extract the location of the file.
A wave of a hand motioned to the attendant behind the glass to lower the dose of the drug slightly. Not much but just enough for RKB to come round to be able to blurt out the truth upon questioning.
Seven smirked, looking forward to play this twist in the game.
Zipping up her jacket and securing her kit, Agent JKR was ready to dismantle the bomb. Mahir's sensor equipment had identified that it was placed in an air vent, directly over the room where the delegates were to meet. But the true nature of the device could only be determined on close inspection. She nodded to Mahir to indicate she was ready and he promptly came over with the hotel floor and veneration shaft plans. Laying them on the bonnet of the car he explained the strategy they would be taking. Earlier Agent V had informed Ishita that she and M would be guiding her through the ventilation system while Mahir oversaw the safety of the delegates.
Ishita tucked in her hair and her tools, ready for action.
"Any questions before you set off?"
"No"
"Ok. Once you're in Agent V will take over. M will be on hand if you need her"
"Right. Erm Mahir any news on RKB?"
"Not yet but Romi is on it. I'm sure he's fine. I'll manage the delegates. And Bala is overseeing the family"
"Hmm. Right I better get moving"
"Good luck"
"Yea. Oh, Mahir could you please phone Lord Khan and reassure him I think as Ramans not answering his calls hes feeling a little apprehensive about the delegates."
"Sure I'll get right on to it"
Sensing that there was something between the two youngsters, she nodded to Mahika then stepped away to give them some space.
"Ishita, I mean agent JKR is a bit off with me. Is it because she saw us kiss?" Mahir asked Mahika as they both watched Ishita standing at a distance.
"No, no I don't think she saw us. She's probably spooked because of RKB" Mahika reassured Mahir. "But...I can talk to her, if it's bothering you? I mean I don't mind talking about it, it was a good kiss" Mahika tried to lighten the mood.
"Oh ho, really? It was was it?" Mahir turned to look at her more closely, a smile beginning to form on his handsome face despite the dire situation.
"Yea, yea it was. Although the memory of it is getting a little foggy" Mahika teased. "I might need a reminder, sometime real soon. Hmm?" Mahika grinned, shyly but adamantly trying to convey her feelings to him.
"Yea, yea soon" Mahir couldn't believe what he was hearing, but smiled broadly as he processed the meaning of Mahika's words.
Mahika's shy smile told him everything and as their eyes locked they both began to grin.
"Ok guess we better go. Take care"
"You too. And reassure Agent JKR about Raman. She shouldn't worry, he knows how to take care of himself. He always finds a way to let us know he's ok. Plus there are people looking for him"
"Yea hope so"
"And hey you know that offer to jog your "foggy memory", I promise I will take you up on that after we sort this mess"
"Hmmm I'm counting on it"
They both hugged briefly before Mahir started the engine and put the car into gear, ready to go and check up on the delegates while Mahika turned to join Agent JKR and to complete the mission at hand.
to be continued...
