I am a Tamil Brahmin and I know it might be hard for some people to accept the fact that Ishita didn't experience physical intimacy before her marriage but if we look upon her culture and up-bringing, it doesn't seem unreal. Yes, there are exceptions and Tamil Brahmins are not out of that reach but Ishita's character is sketched like that from the very beginning. Things have changed a lot but still most of the TamBram girls don't engage in physical intimacy before marriage, specially those who follow their culture and tradition ardently. They can be highly educated and modern but at the same they do follow their religion and culture too. And, Ishita is someone who was shown that kind of a girl from the very beginning. So, it's not unfathomable that she didn't experience intimacy before even though the time span was quite significant. I have seen many TamBram or Muslim girls who courted their lovers for years years with a very limited intimacy e.g. hand-holding, hugging. It might sound not so modern or lacking non-veg thing in a relationship but that is still the reality in Indian society. And, if concerned people are fine with it, I find it all okay.
And, about losing virginity thing, it would have been rather shocking if Ishita was shown she did, not because of her action but because of the way her character is shown so far. Whether we agree or not, it's a big thing for Indian middle class women and specially for the Tamil Brahmins. I can recall forum member's anguish when it was revealed that Mihika was a virgin. She was depicted as a carefree, independent, working woman but at the same time she valued her culture too. When the MMS clip was made by Romi back in January last year, the original clip showed Mihika's discomforts when Mihir leaned to kiss her and again, just before Ashok-Sagun wedding fiasco, she had shown her discomfort when Mihir tried to get close to her. So, here also Mihika's being a virgin doesn't seem overboard. Yes, she was not very reserved or timid like her Ishu akka when it comes to physical intimacy but she knew her limits too.
I agree with your premise though. Indian TV shows are yet not comfortable with the notion of showing or discussing utmost physical intimacy before marriage, specially for the female characters. But Ishita simply doesn't fit into that category because of her characterization and the culture she belongs and follows.
