I am an Iyer, was raised in Delhi and have known 100s of Punjabis along the way.

I ate at a Desi buffet yesterday for lunch, one of the two Desi places in town.. its owned by a Sikh family (one of the handful that live in my middle of nowhere town), we were done at 2:45 ish they close at 2:30. A group of 4 Americans showed up at the door while the owner's wife was ringing me up, the boy that helped clean the plates off the table, was hovering, he saw the people by the door, the lady sent them away saying "Nope Sorry we are closed now"

He goes in Punjabi to her "Aw Cmon why cant they eat there is food in the trays and there are some customers still chatting"

She goes"Hey I have to go, I am not listening to you" (laughing of course) and then tells me "He did the same a week ago on a Sunday, invited people to eat after it had closed and they didnt leave until 4 PM, iska bus chale to main buffet raat ke 12 baje tak karti rahoongi" (If he could he would make me leave the buffet open until midnight). The kid just works there, he could have nonchalantly walked away, gone off to take a nap or be on the phone , until they reopen at 6 for biz

SUCH generosity and hospitality is the singular honor of Punjabis alone in India.👏👏👏
