Beautiful romance! After todays safety pin wala romance...the Raman in your story was easy to imagineGood job👏
Raman was trying to think up ways to keep her there with him in the room while Ishita was pulling away preparing to leave but her heart wasn't in it. She wanted to stay, wanted a reason to stay but at the same time she hadn't decided whether this was the right moment to take things forward. As these thoughts were running in her mind, Raman suddenly picked her up in his arms and started moving into the room. She held onto his neck and experienced a flash of panic.
I: Raman, aap...
R: Don't worry Ishita, main sirf wahan couch pe le ja raha hoon. Main soch raha thi ki shayad tum thak gayi, itni dimag lagake planning karne ke baad. You're not used to it na..
She made a miffed face at this comment but also blushed slightly at his hidden reassurance, knowing that similar thoughts must be running through his mind about the elephant in the room...namely their bed.
Slowly he placed her down on the couch and made her lay back against the arm of the chaise and took a seat next to her on the edge. She felt a sense of awkwardness pervading her and her body began to stiffen remembering what had transpired between them just now. It was the first time they had kissed. It felt momentous but scary at the same time. After this there was really only one milestone left for their relationship to be truly complete and thoughts of that had taken over her mind.
Noticing this change in her demeanor Raman moved back slightly and rested his hand on her other side. He wanted to lighten the mood a bit to distract her awkwardness.
R: Waise tumne finally kuch achcha suprise diya mujhe. Nahin toh, har waqt meri career ke bare main hi sochti thi. Patiyon ko apni biwion se aise hi surprise pasand hoti hain
Playing along, Ishita responded.
I: Achcha mujhe toh bilkul maloom nahin tha. Pehli shaadi hai na meri?
R: Koi baat nahin, main hoon na. Sab sikhadoonga tumhe
I: Very good...aur kya kya seekne ko milega mere pati se, batao na?
Their return to their usual nok jhok was bringing Ishita back to her normal self, forgetting that sudden grip of embarrasment that had taken over after recalling her bold moves that led to the last 20 minutes.
R: Hai bahut si cheesein lekin baataane wale nahi, dikhane wale
His wife was blushing deep red now as he paused meaningfully. He picked up her hand and started playing with her fingers. Ishita looked down to watch this, glad for somewhere, anywhere to look besides into his eyes.
She wasn't sure where Raman was heading with this but she found herself liking it. It felt like a naughtier version of their usual conversations. Or maybe she was giving these connotations to his words now that things had evolved between them. Aiyyo, was he saying these types of things all along?? Maybe she just didn't catch them before!
R: Khair woh sab choddo. Ek aur baat boloo...yeh bedroom couch na meri life ki sabse badi tragedy hai. Humare ghar mein ek tha aur ab yahan service apartment main bhi. Sometimes I wish we couldn't afford such nice places. Then we'd have a small room with one small bed we'd have to share.
She rolled her eyes at him.
I: Raman...if that was true, Ruhi ke saath Rinkie aur Romi bhi humare kamre mein hi sothe. So you should be thanking this couch in fact.
He laughed, bringing her hand up to his lips and brushing it lightly. Ishita felt a gentle shiver go through her at the memory of his lips touching her elsewhere just a little while ago.
R: Kya yaar, I don't want to be picturing that
I: Couch se itni nafrat thi, toh mujhe itney din yaha sone kyun diya
She took a tentative step into this new zone of flirting. Normally, feeling self-conscious she would run away rather than have conversations like these, but this was certainly turning into a day with many firsts.
R: Arrey isi baat ki regret hai na. Par kya bolta tumhe, 'Ishita yahan mere paas soh jayo, Ruhi ke bina bhi. Main kuch nahi karunga. Tum maan jaati?'
I: Haan kyun nahi.
R: Achcha...woh Chee' yaad nahi?
Ishita grinned at the recollection of when the bed broke and Raman couldn't stand sleeping on the couch so she had woken up to see him next to her.
I: Tab ki baat alag thi, I had only known you for a few months. Baad main...I trusted you.
R: Haan I trusted you too, but I don't trust myself with you
Ishita smiled shyly looking down. Raman lifted her chin up slowly and then resting his palm on her cheek, slowly made circles on her skin with his thumb.
R: Par ek achchi baat is couch ke baare mein yeh hai ki yahan ki ambience bohut achchi
I: ambience kya?
Bringing his face down closer to hers, he spoke in a low, soft whisper.
R: Kabhi kabhi raat ko, khidki se hawa aake tumhare baal chehere pe aisehi reh jaate the aur chandni main tum aur bhi khoobsurat lagti thi. Mai kabhi kabhi aisehi tumhe dekhta tha ki koi ITNI khoobsurat kaise ho sakta hai. Bina make up, ya jewelry, ya fancy western dress ke, it was the most beautiful sight I'd seen. And I had to stop myself from reaching out to you in those moments.
It was true; Raman had spent countless times like that just staring at her while she slept peacefully. Even before he knew he loved her, possibly even when he used to mostly dislike her. It made him think of her simplicity and goodness, this woman he forced himself to marry. The size of her heart and her ability to deal with everything he had thrown at her and done it without much complaint about what she needed or wanted from this relationship, as a wife, as a woman. All she had ever asked from him was respect.
At first she was doing it for Ruhi, then she started helping his family which then became their family. And somewhere along the way, she started making his life better and he'd started to feel a sense of belonging that he'd never felt before. Belonging to someone as a man, not as a son or father. Even in his first marriage. Ishita had given him that unique experience.
Those were the pleasant thoughts that would run through his mind those nights he would gaze upon her. And so this couch reminded him of the journey of his own heart. Going from dislike to respect to love, for her. More than anything else, in those moments, he felt an intense need to touch her, to be connected to her physically, as if that would prevent his heart from bursting from within. It felt contrary, this need to master those feelings by expressing them.
Ishita was looking into his eyes as he spoke, and smiled at the thought of him secretly watching her sleep and blushed at the picture in her mind. Raman's warm breath was nearer as he spoke and Ishita felt that same heat settle inside herself as she tentatively whispered back.
I: Kya karne wale the?
Raman shifted himself closer to her on the couch, moving her hair and gently tucking it behind her ear. He traced her jawline as he moved his fingers down her face. Then he dipped his head above her forehead and placed a lingering kiss. Dropping his head lower, he kissed the tip of her nose and then moved further down. Her hands had traveled up both his arms, holding him gently in anticipation.
Softly he pressed his lips against her waiting ones as she closed her eyes. He held it a long moment before withdrawing to look at her. Her eyes remained closed. He smiled thinking playfully that she was expecting him to continue. Instead he held her face while nuzzling into her and spoke in a feather light voice
R: I love you
