Hello everyone! I am on the interview trail and currently stuck at an airport waiting for my connecting flight so I had the time to catch the episode. I was hoping to see something emotional and heart rendering but we got some comedy. No complains though, the makers need to cater to all kinds of audience and more importantly not everyone is emo like me who like long emotional monologues.
To kill time at the airport, I have penned down the episode I would have liked to see. Please share your thoughts with me about how you like this alternative episode or the one we saw on TV.
Episode 10/8 - at my whim.
Not proofread, it's time to board the flight lol
Raman stood in the waiting room motionless with Mani's words echoing loudly in his ears.
Mani: Raman you are a husband but you aren't a good husband.
These words were echoing in Raman's mind and his head started spinning, was he really that bad of a husband. He couldn't think, couldn't breathe, and couldn't understand what was going on in his life. With a blank stare he started walking towards his wife's room in a daze. He quietly entered the room, pulled up a chair next to her bed and started staring at her helplessly. He was hoping she will get up and rescue him from this inner turmoil he was going through but Ishita was still under Anesthesia, he needed her the most today but she was unavailable for him. He wanted to ask her, has he been that bad of a man? Has he been that unfair to her? Has he been selfish in looking out for him and his daughter? Did he ruin Ishita's life by marrying her? With every passing moment he was dying from inside, he needed answers and he needed answers from her. He wanted to scream and shake Ishita to awaken her from the deep slumber.
He kept staring at her peaceful face when he started noticing the intricate details and her beautiful features. He noticed a cute little freckle under her lower lip. It looked like it was playing hide and seek with her lips, with a smile it would appear and with a frown it would hide the skin fold. He chuckled thinking of a freckle playing hide and seek, just then he realized how come he never noticed this freckle on her face. His eyes now were moistening and he said out loud,
how could I have noticed this freckle on her face, this freckle only appears when she smiles, and I have only been a source of stress in her life, I never gave her a reason to smile'
With that tears started rolling down his cheeks, he needed her right now before he completely breaks down. He took her right hand in his and started caressing her face. He kissed her hand and held it tight in his hands. He started remembering all the insults he bestowed upon his wife, making her apologize to Shagun during the holi scene, blaming her for kidnapping Ruhi, announcing to the entire family that they do not share a marital relationship, not standing up for her initially during the param fiasco and hiding Adi's accident truth. Many such stories started coming back to him and the tears steadily made their way out of his now very red eyes. He kept kissing her hand while holding on to her with a tight grip.
Raman was trying to deal with this turmoil and also trying to fathom the fact that an outsider had to break the news to him that he wasn't a good' husband. What hurt him the most was that a third person had to point out the cracks in their relationship. Mani came as an annoying character into his life but he showed him the mirror and what Raman kumar Bhalla saw in that mirror was not very flattering. He saw a man bruised and battered who was still holding on to his past, he saw a man who was so guarded that it would take years for someone to tear down those walls. With a heavy head, and teary eyes Raman fell asleep holding Ishita's hand in his while his head rested in Ishita's bed.
Sometime during the night Ishita woke up to see her husband sleeping on an uncomfortable chair clutching on to her hand resting his head next to her lap. She got up and repositioned herself only to notice the sheets next to Raman's face soaking wet. It didn't take her a too long to figure out that her Ravan kumar was shedding tears for her, a slow smile crept on her lips. She thanked God for giving her all the happiness in the world, a perfect daughter and a husband whose heart is pure gold.
Slowly the smile vanished as she realized that this is the closest she has been to Raman in all their married life. Tears started filling her deep eyes at the thought that she couldn't be a true companion for her Ravan. She started blaming herself for being so emotionally damaged from her previous relationship that she never gave Raman a real chance, she always brushed him off as Ruhi's dad. Here was a man so perfect, who loved their daughter, his loyalty towards his family is unquestionable, he become a perfect son in law to her parents, heck she would go on to say that he became a Son to her parents, he always supported her in every struggle of hers. He kicked Romi out of the house for bala, he kicked Param out for her, he took care of Amma during the accident, he sacrificed his presidentship at a drop of a hat for her license. She started crying profusely at the thought of her being inept as a wife to her perfect' husband. And crying got worse when she remembered the night she brought Shagun into their bedroom, she should have been the one protecting Raman but she became the reason for all his trouble that night. Her tears fell on Raman's cheek which woke him up from his sleep.
R: Ishita are you okay? Are you in pain? He started screaming doctor doctor..
I: Raman main thik hu, I don't need a doctor
R: Ro kyun rahi ho tum, please tell me
I: Nothing bas started thinking about the past and the mistakes...
Raman cut her in the middle
R: Stop right there, today you will listen to my bhashan. Ishita I never took the time to tell you that you are the perfect wife. You take care of my family better than I ever could, you didn't give birth to Ruhi but you made me a dad in the true sense. Romi can only confide in you, mom found a daughter in you that she lost in Simmi. You are a carrier oriented woman who isn't dependent on me and that's the kind of independence I want our Ruhi to learn.
I: Raman aao yeh
R: Chup. I haven't finished yet, you have done so much good for me but I remain a class a jerk to you, I don't appreciate you, make fun of you, I taunt you and I never cared to get to know you, your likes, your dislikes, your aspirations. All I have done is yell and intimidate you. You have been a perfect wife to a very very rude loveless man who you unfortunately get to call your husband.
I: Listen mister you stop right there and don't you dare say a word against my very perfect husband.
Raman is taken aback with that statement, he looks up at her
I: His taunts, his one-liners, his sarcasm make my day. I think about them all day. When I wear a purple saree I wait to hear if he call me an eggplant, if I wear green he will call me a karela, red then tomato. You know why he calls me those names because he notices, he notices his wife and takes out time to comment on her. He jokes with me to make me laugh and break the monotony of our boring daily life. He is the same pain who took care of my amma, paid the hospital bill, slapped Romi for bala jiji and kicked his brother in law Param out of the house, for ME!
So not a word about my husband. And he is so sweet and caring that he sat next to me all night and I assume he was crying for my plight. He might not be perfect for others but he is perfect for me.
Raman slowly smiled and let out a chuckle. He moved over to her bed and sat right next to her.
R: Suno if you think I am perfect then tell your good for nothing Mani that. He told me I am not a good' hudband and that you aren't happy with me.
I: Raman you might not be perfect for others but you are perfect for me. Find me one couple who have no problems in their lives and lead a non troublesome life. Those couples don't exist Raman. Mani isn't married, he doesn't know what it takes to make a marriage work. It takes patience, perseverance, and hard work.
R: Tell me about it, only I know how hard I have to work to tolerate you.
I: Annnd Ravan kumar is back with that.
They both start laughing
R: Yaar you are so rude, I called you a perfect wife and you didn't even thank me
I: You know why am I a perfect wife
R: Why?
I: Because I have a perfect husband
Raman hiding his tears turns away from Ishita. He then looks back at her
R: Suno when I saw you lie listless in this bed I realized what you meant to me, I think it takes adversity to shake us out of the complacency of daily life. I started taking you for granted and I am sorry. I do not know what love' is, the emotion that we call love' has always troubled me. I know we have a lot of problems but I promise to work with you and resolve our problems.
I: Raman it takes two to tango, I am equally to blame for the problems we face today but yes I resolve to work with you to make our marriage work. Our situation is different, we were strangers who married to get love of a child, we slowly starting tolerating each other, became friends and then we paused and we started taking each other for granted. We don't have a perfect' life but it's our life and I promise we will work together to take our relationship forward.
Raman was not surprised by his wife's maturity, he knew his Jhansi ki rani had the resolve and patience to solve any crisis and he knew that they would get over any hurdle.
R: Yaar subah se rula rahi ho, raat bhar kursi pe kamar toot gayi aur itni bhookh lagi hai
I: So rude! Bimar main hoon aur attention apko chahiya.
R: Chalo chodo yaar ye bataon breakfast kya karogi?
Ishita with glee in her eyes
I: Chole bhature!
R: Khush to aise ho rahi hai chole bhature ke naam se jaise lottery jeet le hain
I: Lottery to hain na, I am eating my favorite breakfast food with my husband for the very 1st time.
Raman chuckled still holding his JKR;'s hand and realized that this was his new normal'.
