so shagun was pregnant at the time of the accident caused by mr. iyer. and because she was pregnant, she likely had complications which led to her death. yet ruhi survived. so raman, the one that had convinced shagun of having the child, is feeling guilty and is transferring the guilt and blame on to ruhi . and to punish mr. iyer, who apparently caused the accident, raman married his only daughter as nothing causes pain to a parent as much as life of misery for their child.
