This scenario came to me when they were planning the Mi-Mi wedding.
WOULD have been cute to see Ishra have this conversation...
Ishita tried to stretch her back somehow the girl applying henna paused "Main ruk jaoon thodi der?" she asked worried. "Nahi" she said, shaking her head, she wore a pink salwar kameez, no sleeves, she had spent all morning at Amma's. Mihika was covered in mehandi, or so it looked like to her from where she was at. Vandu Akka brought her some steaming filter coffee.
"Akka, garam hai, ya to aap pilao mujhe, ya main straw se peeoongi jab thanda ho jaayega"she purred..
"OMG! Ishu, how much natak, are you the bride?"Vandu asked startled, but smiling
"Hey Akka, meri shaadi ke time, mujhe kuch maza nahi aaya" sulked Ishita
"Arey usko enjoy karne do Vandu. Paavam" Amma chimed in.
Ishita's henna went half way up to her forearm...on both arms
When she was finally done, she walked over to the Bhallas, the doors to both houses were open, people walking in and out, Carnatic violin played in Iyers' and Hindi-pop played at Bhallas. Romi gawked at random 18 somethings pretending to be tired and asleep on the couch...
"Theek kitha puttar" Mrs Bhalla beamed looking at her mehandi.
"Mummyji, mera phone andar reh gaya, main lene aayi, ab main lauti nahi hoon" Ishita giggled
"Woh to mujhe dikh raha hai" Mrs Bhalla grinned as her daughter in law, carved a path between gossping Punjabi aunties and kids. "Raman pooch raha tha tujhe" Mrs Bhalla said casually, turning to talk in rapid fire Punjabi with an oldish aunt
Ishita's heart skipped a beat... sendinga rush of color to her already flushed face.
She went up to the dresser mirror, and showed off her henna, and smiled... peered down to look at the design carefully... not noticing her husband walk in, the door was shut for some reasonš³
"How will you ride your horse if you have henna on both hands?" he asked curious
She turned around startled " I am borrowing the batmobile" she said, never lost for a rejoinder
She watched him approach her ever so slllowly, the top two buttons undone on his tan/peach shirt, coffee brown trousers... hair a lil ruffled, but walk as purposeful as ever, the Louis Vuitton belt reverse in the reflection...
Their eyes locked somewhere in the top right quadrant of the mirror
She took a step side ways, as he did too
"Ghar par kya kar rahi ho tum? Mujhe laga tum wahanse kam se kam 2 hafte to nahi lautogi" he smirked
"Dont worry main jaa rahi hoon, do nahi 4 hafton ke liye!!' miffed.. he grinned...satisfied..
"Mihir ko bhashan dene unke honeymoon par bhi jaaogi kya?' he asked unfazed
The gap was CLOSED!
She turned to face him "I never got one" "Mujhe lagta hai kisi aur ko bhi nahi milna chahiye" she said recklessly
She leaned on the window by the dresser.
"I never got to find my name on your mehandi, but I let you get another one" he said very softly and reasonably.
"Koi naam nahi hai" she waved smugly
:"I dont believe that" he said shrewdly scanning her flushed nervous face
He grabbed both her arms at her elbows as she sucked her breath in audibly
"Raman" ("oh great! it sounds like a moan, she chided herself as she trembled)
"Yep, wohi dhoondne do" (he quickly looked up as if he heard the moan and liked it)
His hands were cold, her arms were on fire...
She was reminded of how he wrapped her hand at the clinic, serious, focussed, and quiet...
She tried to yank her arms...
"Ssshhh" he said, blowing cool air smugly on her damp mehandi filled hands
"Raman, meri coffee wahan thandi ho rahi hai, Amma ke ghar, woh vadai bhi banwa rahi hai"
He shook his head and smiled derisively, his eyes glinted "I see an R" he said, freeing his left hand, and pinning the letter to her palm
"R nahi hai woh, its an S" she said defiantly
"Kis language mein? Tamil?" he asked locking gazes, she nodded feebly, his face was much closer than before, the shadow on his chin GREEN... "he must shave twice" she inaudibly muttered to herself, offering that unsolicited piece of advice to herself
"A" he said staring into her eyes
"Haan Ishita mein hain na A" she said...staring back at him
"Ek letter Tamil mein ek English mein?" he asked catching her bluff.
He found, another A and the N as she struggled by the window...
He began to laugh, "M" kidhar hai? He asked innocently...in his signature husky gravelly voice
She shook her head denying...
"V" hai for RAVAN" she croaked breathlessly...his head bent over her right hand he began to look ...her heart thundering in her ears..š³ as his body shook with quiet laughter, and his grip on her elbows tightened
