Why do actors let cvs destroy their chracters

Im curious .. Do actors not care about their character? If they see the character beloved by so many being brought to new lows on a daily basis can they not object? After all they are the ones portraying the character dont they think they have to stand up to this destruction by the cvs? dont they owe it to the character and their viewers?
