Could be the papers weren't filed ever and they were just a ploy to hurt Raman, since if Ashok decides to legally adopt Adi, then he wont be able to go back on that easily. Also Adi would become his heir and if Ashok isn't serious about Shagun as he doesn't marry her nor ever will, I don't have a doubt in my mind to him Adi is also a mere pawn, a puppet he can use anytime to hurt Raman. And people don't reward pawns and puppets, they merely use them until the time they can be discarded and now with the loss he has taken in business, the investors who are fleeing his side, Ashok will not keep pampering Adi for long.
It may not happen now or soon, but I think he may sell of that fancy car he gifted to this brat to cut down expenses and raise some money too, which can also extend to his school someday. Being in an international school is expensive as it is in today' economy - why would Ashok continue to burn a hole in his pocket when he is in financial trouble and that too for a kid who isn't even his own.
That brat from hell will be kicked down from his high horse by none other than his dear Ashok papa, and only then perhaps will he realize and understand the true worth of his own father, someone he hates, disrespects and insults, every chance he gets.
He may be the way he is because of Shagun and Ashok, but it doesn't mean he doesn't deserve whats coming his way for sure. Especially after he stooped so low as to harass and bully poor Shravan and only because he is Ishita' nephew.
All the kids coming together in one school, is merely setting the stage for this to happen in its due course of time, with Adi crossing path time and again with his sister, his dad and step-mom, he will slowly and steadily pick up on the differences between his real family and the so-called family he has in his mama and Ashok papa. He will realize how wrong he was to misunderstand his own father and be brainwashed by a man, who is actually the reason that his parents split in the first place, and maybe even realize - how Ishita as a stepmother is so much more maternal in her approach, than his own mom.
