CHAPTER 1- AS TIME GOES BY
Govind walked into the Security Council, with his friend Anuj by his side, both talking very fast. As the Sec Gen, he had many responsibilities, and was preoccupied.
"Good Lord, Govind, take a goddamn breather," said Anuj, frowning.
"No, I am ok.." he said, looking up. He broke off, catching sight of the person in front of him. His chocolate brown eyes met her unique coloured ones and he was swept away. Flashes of images hit him. Memories, yet not memories.
He stood in a garden, watching a beautiful woman wielding a bow and arrow. Standing next to the same woman, teaching weaponry to a small child. Laughing with her in a balcony. She was close to him, almost kissing. He was almost covering the gap, they were almost there..
"Govind!" Anuj's voice broke through the images. He found himself staring at Vasudha Venkatakrishnan. The girl from MUN the last year. The one who had occupied his thoughts since then. Her eyes, the simple act of catching her before she fell, her smile, everything about the two and half minute interaction with her had him captivated for a year.
"Hello everyone," said Govind, not tearing his gaze from her face. He noticed that she hadn't looked away either. He gave his usual short speech, but his attention never shifted from Vasudha, his gaze never left her. It was reluctantly, that later, he broke eye contact, for he needed to start the discussion.
Vasudha walked into the school again, a year after she first met Govind. His name still happened to be the religion.
Some things never change', thought Vasudha, smiling lightly.
She had been looking forward to seeing him in the other MUNs and debate competitions, but it was not to be. She was happy that even the thought of facing him always kept her well-read. She was pretty sure that if he was in politics, he would be an extremely powerful ally to have.
Vasudha walked towards the Security Council room, determined to do her best this time as well. She loved being part of the Security Council, for security was one of her favourite topics to talk about. She knew for one that Govind is the Secretary General this time around. She was looking forward to the discussions, as with him, all discussions were prone to be interesting. She was excited to start the day.
She entered the room, smiling at everyone, and nodding her head at those she knew. She could feel Govind's presence. She shifted her gaze to him, only to find that his eyes were drinking her in. his eyes gave her goosebumps. They were perfect eyes, with the ability to show all the emotions that exist in the Universe.
She saw Him standing under a tree, calling out to her. She could see His mor pankh clearly. His mor pankh only spoke of His love. How did He have the ability?
Suddenly, she was wielding a bow and arrow, standing next to Him, and shooting the target accurately, Him looking on with pride and love.
She smiled shyly, and sat down, doing her best to look away from the intense gaze he was giving her. Yet, her eyes couldn't tear away from his, and they stayed locked in an eye to eye battle.
He started his introductory speech, but all she could focus on was the fact that he also couldn't take his eyes off her. His eyes captivated her. She didn't want to look away. He had been on her mind since she first met him.
Even after he finished talking, his eyes didn't leave hers, till they realized that he had to start the discussion. Vasudha's face was as red as a ripe tomato, and due to her fair skin, her lightest blush was always visible.
A year later...
Vasudha walked into the school, knowing that she wasn't going to see Govind any longer. She didn't like not seeing him. She missed those small encounters with him, those eye-to-eye battles that only they knew they had. Those had been so intimate and personal. She felt like she had shared a secret with him. She had an inkling that what she felt for Govind was more than that. But right now, her education and career were more important. What she felt for Govind would have to wait, especially considering the fact that she might not see him for who knows how long. All she could do was pray to Kanha and wait for Govind to come back. After all, if they were meant to be, why wouldn't it happen?
Yet, her heart was already filled with the image of Govind as her Krishna, though she would deny it for quite some time.
"Kanha Bhai!" a voice broke through Govind's thoughts.
"Hi kiddo."
His sister Devika pouted at him. "I am not a kid, I will have you know. MUN is back, everyone is missing you." She plopped down next to him.
"I am missing it too." A huge smile covered his face, as he remembered Vasudha. Her smile, her eyes, her touch.
"Bhaaai!" Devika's voice interrupted him again.
"Yes, Chutki?"
"Where are you?"
"Uhm, thinking about MUN, Chutki," he replied, not meeting her gaze. She raised an eyebrow at him.
"Kanhaaa!"
"Hi Dau," said Govind, looking at his elder brother.
"Dau, Bhai is not telling me who he is thinking about." Devika hugged her brother.
"Really, Kanha, how could you?" said Anant, mock-surprised.
"Haha Dau, very very funny." Shyam retorted with a scowl.
"Dau, Bhai, Diii!" their youngest sibling, Maya came waltzing in. "Whatcha doing?"
"Teasing Bhai. He is being mean," grinned Devika, looking at her brother.
"What about?"
"Some girl."
"Whooo?" Choti's eyes widened. "Vika Di, Bhai has a girlfriend?"
"I don't know, Choti," said Devika. "Dau would know, though."
"Nah, he doesn't. He just has a huge giant sized crush, though!"
"DAU!" said Govind, glaring at his brother, even as Choti and Chutki settled down to listen to Dau's story.
Luckily for Govind, Anant didn't say her name, and arouse the suspicion of his younger sisters, especially Devika, who was the same age as Vasudha.
2 years later...
Vasudha searched for her friend Devika. Where was she?
She wanted to listen to the talk, and hopefully conduct a debate on it later with her debate club. Suddenly, she spotted Devika, and said, "Hey Devika!"
"Hi! I was just looking for you!", said Devika.
"So, let's sit together. And help me out. I am looking for topics for the Debate Club. As well as for the story competition", said Vasudha.
"And the talk?", asked Devika.
"It's on Voters ID. I can listen and come up with topics, and so can you. Don't fuss", said Vasudha.
"Okay okay. By the way, my sister Maya would like to sit with us, okay?", said Devika.
"That's fine", said Vasudha, grinning at her friend, before walking to the amphitheatre with Devika.
"So, what's up?" Vasudha asked
"Nothing really. I am hoping that this gets over fast. My brothers said they'll call me. I want to talk to them", said Devika.
"They are in the US right?"
"Yeah. Bhai went last year, Dau has been there for two."
"Ah okay, I still remember them from MUN at your school."
"Yeah, hard not to remember. Both revelled in being the most wanted' guys in the area. At least, Bhai did. Dau not really."
"Did he? He didn't seem like that" said Vasudha, slightly preoccupied.
"Hey, you okay?" said Devika, shaking her out of her thoughts.
"I am," said Vasudha.
"Vika Di!" It was Maya.
"Hey, Choti. Meet Vasudha, my friend. Vasudha, my younger sister Maya."
"Hey," said Maya, smiling at Vasudha.
"Hi, Maya!"
"Di, Bhai and Dau said that they'll call in a bit.", said Maya.
"Yeah, they will, and hopefully this thing will be over by then," said Devika, gesturing to the stage that had been set up for the lecture scheduled.
Devika waved one last time to her parents and Choti, even as Vasudha did the same with her parents.
"Ready?" asked Vasudha.
"Forever," grinned Devika. They checked in to the airport, finished all the paperwork and sat in the airport, waiting for Govind to call. Devika's phone rang.
"Hi Bhai!" she said, grinning.
"Hi, kiddo. What's up?"
"I am in the airport with Vasudha. We both are going to board in a while."
"Oh, okay, Dau and I will come and pick you up, don't worry."
"Okay, Bhai, see you there." She hung up, and turned to Vasudha. "Bhai is coming to pick me up. What about your plans?"
"I have cousins coming to pick me up."
"Ah okay. You can probably meet them in the airport, if your cousins don't reach." Devika grinned, and Vasudha grinned back at her. They boarded the flight together, marking a beginning to new life, and a strong and unending friendship.
