The Moment

He tried to fight down his nervousness and the oncoming blush as his arm snaked around her. Firmly holding her waist, he drew her close to him.
"Okay."
She tried to hide the furious blush that now matched his as she blinked away shyly.
"1."
"2."
"3!"
A black leather jacket sprinted out into the school's front yard as they headed into the rain, their feet pounding the muddy ground beneath them.
He felt himself almost drag to the ground when she suddenly tripped and pummeled herself into the wet field. He looked down at her. He hated the look on her face. Full of pain. He couldn't think of anything but her pain as his hands dropped the jacket in his hands and grabbed her arms to steady her. He watched her. She was so beautiful. A small yet genuine smile graced his lips as he gazed at her. Her hair and clothes were now soaked. Her huge eyes closed as small rain drops fell from her eyelashes.
His fingertips slowly made their way around her ear, down her neck and shoulder. They continued to trail slowly downward, creating tiny goosebumps along her arm until they finally rested over her hand. Grasping her cheek with his free hand, he planted his lips softly upon her forehead resting them there for a while. Her eyes drooped as she felt his lips lightly graze downward to the tip of her nose. His fingers played with hers until he released them to cradle her face completely with his palms holding them ever so delicately as he pressed his lips upon her cheeks spreading a warm color over them. He heard her gasp when his lips proceeded to place a kiss on her other cheek and drink the drops of drizzling rain that hit her face. His fingers quivered as they held her face and eyes closed as he neared her parted, wet lips. He indulges himself in her addictive breath and finds his mind in an intoxicative trance.
The trance breaks as fast as it came and he hates himself to death when he pushes her away and looks ashamedly into the ground dreading the terrible consequences of his impulsive actions.
He could see from the corner of his eyes that she wanted to say something by the way her mouth opened and closed a few times but no words came out. And he knew she wanted an explanation for his actions but what could he say? He didn't know if should he speak of his feelings for her in his heart and tell her how much he longed for her or if he should tell her that he's sorry and to forget this ever happened. He wanted to prove that he was not the player she thought he was. For a while now, they were in a special relationship, carefully balancing friendship while softly treading a little beyond. He felt guilt suddenly overtake him as he remembered his promise to himself of not laying a hand on her unless she was willing but in this moment of intensity he recklessly broke it. He was unable to understand what was going on in her mind. Was she angry? Hurt? Or did she slightly even, feel the same intense and electric bliss that he lost himself so completely in?
He narrowed his eyes and finally looked into her dull, unreadable ones.
