Smriti Iraani is turning writer with her 3rd show Mere Apne. That apart, she is acting in the show as well as co-producing it. Mere Apne will mark Vinod Khanna television debut and his role is being written by Smriti.
Smriti confirms, "I have contributed in the scripting. I wanted to do it so thought why not try it. Somebody said that I am playing a double role but that is not true. In a way though you can say that I am playing three roles - co-producer, writer and actor."
On the reasoning behind roping in yesteryear superstar Khanna, Smriti says, ""While writing Kashinath Pandey's role I had only one name in my mind – that of Vinodji. I knew he would be able to do justice to the character so I told this to channel and all of us successfully managed to convince him. If he would have refused it then I would have never started this show."
Smriti adds, "Many people think that Mr. Khanna gave his nod because of our BJP connection but that is not true. I do not believe in mixing art and politics. I explained him his role, he liked it and accepted it."
In the show, Smriti is playing Vinod Khanna's wife.
Mere Apne goes on air from November 12 on 9X at 10 pm.
