Smriti Irani with Sushant Singh

Call it a matter of fate or pure coincidence, Ekta Kapoor is now set to replace Smriti Irani's much-hyped show Virrudh with a K-soap on Sony TV. If sources are to be believed, Ekta has been busy with those customary high profile meetings to determine the content of her brand new soap and auditions for actors are already underway.

In the meanwhile, Smriti's contract with the channel comes to a close next month, as she will complete filming 104 episodes by then. Apparently, the channel heads are not in a mood to renew the contract because of the show's poor TRPs and have settled for Ekta's new soap for the 9.30 pm time slot.

A series of factors can be blamed for the early exit of Virrudh. While Smriti ensured big publicity plans for the show, it never really went down well with the viewers. Also, it was an expensive show for the channel as the cast included popular faces like Achint Kaur and Sushant Singh. Says a reliable source from the channel, "A lot of money was involved as we had big telly stars. Unfortunately, the show never commanded high TRPs. We have had several meetings with Smriti's creative team but nothing could get the show working. We are unlikely to renew the contract as we are getting a new show to replace it."

When quizzed about it Albert Almeida, senior vice-president marketing, Sony Entertainment Television says, "Ekta is doing some shows for us, which will be launched in the near future. But it's too early to talk about the content and the time-slots."

Its sad that Virudh has to end ..Its the most sensible and interesting soap after Astitva..and hasratien Just shows That no matter how mediocre balaji soaps are folks still like watching their foolish ,sterotype storylines ..then they sit and crib ... about her and her soaps

is the date final???? i cant believe that a superior quality serial like viruddh is being replaced by a kektaa kapoor serial😡 utter nonsense. ajai sinha (i love his serials and astitva is my all time fav) is launching a new show named Unnchayiaan, y cant it be telecasted in sony in viruddh's time slot if at all viruddh must go off air.

i am going to miss sushant-vasu terribly. i thot the viruddh story is getting interesting now, i was hoping now it will grab the attention of the audience. i really dont understand y it is not garnering higher TRPs. i guess this idea of father treating his children as enemies is too much for Indian audience.

i think there is still time. smriti must do something. i think the romantic angles shud be emphasised more. watever hapens i hope the serial gets a decent ending and doesnt go off air abruptly.

i am still keeping my fingers crossed.

i hope sushant will do more serials very soon. it really disappoints me now that i missed Dhadkan on sony.

I never wish for anything bad in other people's life but No Offence, I pray to God that Ekta's New Show gets even lower TRPs than Viruddh so that she realise the mistake she is making by intentionally asking for 9.30 slot just to dump Smriti's show. It is clearly an envious politics Ekta is trying to play with Smriti.

You know what...I dont belive this.

Ekta already has a 9;30 pm show....How will two of her shows contend with each other on different channels.

Doesnt make sense...Right now only the 8pm slot can be changed to ekta's.
