I'm just looking forward to being a part of the euphoria! Imagine standing in the middle of the field with all those people. It sure will be a thrilling experience. Very few people get an opportunity like this. But it's not like I'm just adding glamour to these matches, there's a lot more. Although I'm not a cricket buff, I've always been a sportswoman during my school and college days. I played a cricket match once at 14 and enjoyed it. That's when I understood the nuances of the game and started following it. What will you wear? Obviously, I can't be wearing something skimpy. Those guys need to concentrate on their game (laughs). I'll be wearing jeans, T-Shirts and a lot of sporty stuff. How about doing television serials? No! I can't work 30 hours a day. I don't want to look 30 at 25. I like to be my own master. Most beauty pageant contestants opt for films. Why did you choose television? I didn't really choose television. I'm not a planner. Anchoring just fell into my lap and it was good money too. I get paid to talk (laughs) and one is treated well. What else could one ask for? There's been no looking back for me ever since I started anchoring. I've also had to say no to quite a few shows. I'm taking a break in November and go on a holiday. I'll recharge myself and consider other options too. Maybe I'll look at films or probably I'll just continue anchoring. It's so much fun. Honestly speaking, a film career would mean devoting at least seven years of your life to it. I'm not sure if I want to do it. 'I'm adding spice to the show!': ROHIT ROY How did you react when you were asked to co-host the show? It was like a dream come true for me. Entertainment weds cricket is a dream come true for any child in India. Every kid wants to be either an actor or a cricketer when he grows up. At this stage in my life, when I've achieved a lot, this is like a new beginning. This is something totally different and made me feel rejuvenated. That's why I don't take on too much work on television. Besides the fact that I don't want to sell myself out, I want to keep myself free for any good film that comes my way. Any special preparation for the show? The preparation begins now. I have to brush up on my knowledge of cricket and the past cricketers. I don't want to be caught on the wrong foot. But I don't think it will happen, as I turn to the Sports page everyday before reading the front page news. I look at this as another facet to me as an actor. I don't want to sound like a cricketer. I've been brought in to blend entertainment with cricket. I'm adding spice to the show. Are you a cricket buff? I played a lot of cricket during my school and college days. I was the wicket keeper and opening batsman in the team. I'd even thought of taking it up on a professional level, but I don't think I was as dedicated to the game as I show towards my acting. I guess life also has something different in store for us. So, a show like this is a fantastic opportunity for someone like me. Any favourite cricketer? My favourite today is Sachin Tendulkar. But in my growing-up years, it was Sunil Gavaskar and Imraan Khan. I'm still in awe of Sunil Gavaskar. I don't think that the cricketing world has ever had a personality like Imraan Khan. He used to walk like a leopard on the field. No one has attitude like him! |
