What is the difference between western and indian tv shows?

Hi, I am a fan of all time tv shows and i have been watching a lot both indian and western series. However, i find a lot of gap between the two. Though i understand that we produce tv shows taking into account our rich cultural aspect in the society, yet there remains the fear of being left out in the international market. I might be wrong. You comments are most welcome.
