He definitely did wrong by throwing them out but the reason I have in my mind that will kinda justify his that action too however since till now it's just my headcanon so I am also mad at him for that stunt

I am not questioning his love for Neil. But getting scared for Neil's life, taking the murder blame & sacrificing his life for him is obvious. But you can't just keep your child alive. He has to take a stand & fight for his happiness now.
