Rashami as Tapasya in Uttaran
R ashami Desai, who was recently in town to perform at the grand finale of ETV Bangla's Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa Bangla , spoke to t2 about the TV show that has changed her life.
On returning to the Colors show Uttaran after about a year:
Uttaran (where she plays Tapasya) changed my life. It has completed 1,000 episodes and is still going strong. I am very attached to it and I am happy to be back with my family!
On her change of heart after a 19-year leap in the show:
I have returned with a lot of changes in the character. Tapasya has becomemore positive about life. She is now amother and is trying to mend things that have gone bad... she's trying to improve relations that have gone sour. The heart transplant in Tapasya took place recently. I have no idea what the creative team has decided. Only the heart has changed… par dimaag toh wohi hai . There are lots of twists in store and people will enjoy them. Just wait and watch!
On playing a mother to an actress who's almost her age:
For an actor, it shouldn't matter whatrole they play. Sreejita (Mukta in Uttaran ) is a wonderful co-star. She is a good friend and very cooperative. I don't feel awkward playing her mother.
On her comic turn in Nautanki — The Comedy Theatre on Colors:
People have so many tensions in life… to make them laugh is a difficult job. I enjoy my work. If it is difficult to make people laugh, it is equally difficult to make them cry.
