Do one hour specials raise a show's TRPs?

A new trend has started in almost all Hindi channels to run a special 60 minute episode of a 30-mintue daily because they feel that they will get maximum TRP. With the competition heating up, channels have discovered this as a means to break the viewing patterns to their shows.

Though most channels had been doing two hours specials, after Colors did a 60-mintue run of Uttaran on October 24th, a new trend seems to have started.

We spoke to Shailaja Kejrilwal of NDTV imagine about this, "Special episodes come in handy and often make sense."

Saurabh Tiwari from Colors added , "We end our special episodes at a point where the audience is left asking for more,so they tune into the next episodes."

Not only this, Zee TV has been as regular with its one-hour specials as Colors, it was a luck by chance experience for them that triggered off the one-hour series. Sukesh Motwani of Zee TV says, "We had a special two-hour episodes of Chhoti Bahu in which Dev discovers who Radhika really misses."

Some of the shows that have had a one hour special episode are Bidaai, Baa,Bahu Aur Baby.Hamari Devrani,Bandini,12/24 Karol Bagh, Uttaran, Bairi Piya.

Motwani says, "Sometimes,the twists are not worth putting imto one hour specials and that's when they pattern dampen the spirit of conversation. The recent Jhansi Ki Rani episode delivered what I had promised"

Nothing seems to deter the production house or the channel from getting one hour special episodes so we can except to go ahead with one-hour specials, so expect one-hour specials for shows like Yeh Pyaar Na Hoga Kam, Laado,Laagi Tujhe Se Lagan.
