The one and only thing that I still find it out of place about this confession (not that I have any hopes but aI like too look from this angle as well) is why will he tell such a deep secret to Chakor?

Imli is his one and only weapon against his enemy, Chakor. He is practically laying down his weapon in front of his enemy, well he even kneels down in front of her in sign of total surrender.
Without Imli he is becoming vulnerable and Chakor can do whatever she wants.

The story doesn't have much to gain from here just to show a positive Suraj. And I think is too soon for a positive Suraj. He still has a lot of potential as negative /gray charcter.
