If he was really looking on her earlier, then he would have had the same lost look on his face because now he was looking directly at her and he had no reaction.
Yes - when he flirts with Chakor - there is an element of a taunt - that takes the seriousness away. Even when he flirted with Tina - there was a slight uncouthness - that is Suraj - and can be tied to the fact that he has not been raised well! I strongly believe that he likes her, but is not love. Love is a powerful feeling who would have stopped him from doing any harm to her. Right now I think that there is a mix of physical attraction undefined feelings of admiration. I think that deep down he likes her bold attitude and determination to fight. Maybe that's why it is so easy for him to enumerate her qualities whenever is necessary. Like he is thinking about them all the time.
Remember when he was high on bhaang he said admiringly to his father that he may say whatever he wants about Chakor, but she runs fast. Later on, when he came to his senses, he apologize to his father and started cursing her again which indicates that what he feels and what he says or does are not one and the same thing.
No, I am not from India. I am form Romania. The show is also running here in my country, it started from a couple of months. So, I have fresh in my mind the initial episodes. Now that I have watched the first episodes again, I am fully convinced that Suraj and Chakor were meant to be from the very beginning. When Suraj was introduced, he was coming home from abroad. And he was introduced with lights and everything like a hero. Watching on TV is different that watching on internet, the director's intentions are more clear. Also the day that Suraj arrived home was the same day that Chakor broke her mother's promise and went for the first time at the haveli. There they discovered that she is actually a slave and her adventure starts. I think it is a clear indication that their destiny were going to cross one with the other.
