Ayaan: Struggling to find stability
Once Pakhi got Ayaan's custody - she reverted to her meddling personality. In the process she lost her focus. Her focus should have been giving Ayaan the stability he needed after the loss of a father. Instead she decided to play Madam Meddlesome and invited Veer's family over without notifying Veer and soliciting his consent. Meddlesome people always cause disharmony and we all know the sequence of events that consumed Pakhi's attention and energy -- so, naturally she never gave a thought about Ayaan.
Pakhi never observed or realized the influence that Veer has had on Ayaan. In fact, I would go so far as to say Pakhi never saw life from Ayaan's perspective.
The way I see it, first Anshuman married Ayaan's mom. So Ayaan had a loving mom and dad. But his mom passed away when he was very young and if I recollect correctly he had several (15 or more) nannies.
So, Ayaan's mom died and he never had a nanny with whom he bonded - they were employees who took up a job and then left it. Meanwhile the rift between him and Anshuman widened because Anshuman neither had the time or patience for him. Besides Anshuman would rather give his attention to meeting other women than spending it with his son!
Then came Tanya - Anshuman's girlfried. Tanya made a show of liking Ayaan while all the while she was plotting and planning with Anshuman to send him away to boarding school. Ayaan never developed any special bonding with Tanya. To him, she was just an aunt who bought him expensive gifts.
To muddle the waters the media got a whiff of Anshuman's plan to marry Tanya while he had a child-bride hidden in Rajasthan. Anshuman could not commit bigamy a second time and was forced to marry Pakhi.
Anshuman, Lavanya, Tanya and all the household help did not like Pakhi when she first arrived to Rathore Mansion. Neither did Ayaan like her. Ayaan was wary of Pakhi and played all kind of tricks including running away from her and home. It was never clear whether there would be a relationship there.
However, Pakhi endured and the trio (Anshuman, Pakhi, and Ayaan) bonded well until Anshuman drove Pakhi away. Ayaan somehow survived that as Pakhi had prepared him for the separation and was in constant communication with him. In fact when she was in Delhi, Pakhi made Ayaan the focus of life. However, Ayaan had to live alone with a saddened Anshuman.
After Pakhi rejoined Anshuman, there was a brief interlude of 'happy family' before Anshuman was killed in an accident. Again, Ayaan was alone with a saddened Pakhi.
Then Veer came along built up his morale and bonded with him. Anuja messed Ayaan up - the long and short of it was that Pakhi declared in front of Ayaan that she wanted to marry Veer as he would be a good father and role model for Ayaan. Veer did not want to marry Pakhi - but Ayaan who had heard his mother's request, pleaded with Veer. So Veer and Pakhi got married. Ayaan was happy - he now had his 'happy family'.
But Anuja was not done yet. However, Veer and Pakhi shielded Ayaan from Anuja - including the custody battle.
Rhea moved in to Ayaan's room with all her mental baggage. After the initial tiffs the two bonded. So now Ayaan was happy he had a sister.
When Anuja left on pilgrimage and peace finally settled on Rathore Mansion - instead of letting the family gel together, Pakhi invited Veer's family without informing Veer or soliciting his consent.
Ayaan got along with Veer's family but Pakhi did not like them. Pakhi's focus shifted from Ayaan (her family), she became wary of Veer and his family. She made it a point to prove her love for Anshuman, and Anshuman alone. She declared to Veer that she could not bear to have him around her.
Now Veer wants to divorce Pakhi. Ayaan is saddened.
Like countless other kids around the globe Ayaan holds himself responsible for the divorce. He thinks the flaw lies in him and so sobs and promises Veer that he will always behave and never give him any trouble.
Ayaan is one of the few kids in India, who belongs to a family that is formed, shattered. reformed, and shattered in the wake of Anshuman's love life, death, and now Pakhi's alliance with Veer.
Ayaan has struggled to navigate a bewildering succession of nannies, live-in relationships, and step parents that have no formal name (he calls them DNW and ND).
Ayaan's life has been very rocky -- what will be the cumulative effect of this on his mental make-up? The pre-cap clearly indicates that Veer is very concerned. However, neither Pakhi nor Lavanya thought about Ayaan and the effect their behaviors would have on him.
I have to hand it to the CVs - this idea of Veer handing Pakhi divorce papers that were first read by the kids - is a master stroke. They have superbly brought to the forefront Ayaan's (a key player in the serial) plight. Again, they have shown that the person most sensitive to Ayaan's needs is Veer not Pakhi. Pakhi reacts first - and thinks later. Veer, on the other hand is a thinker. He is sensitive of others feelings and perceptions.
Fantastic job CVs - hats off to you. This is precisely what I love about SHASHI AND SUMEET MITTAL productions!!
