Okay, ever wonder if a song could sum up an entire story?

Just realized that this is it. This song is from an old film called Heer Ranjha.
Now, before everyone turns their face and says OLDIE...No!!!😆
I will say that I'm an converted fan. I use to hate old films...use to cringe in fear whenever my parents rented a old film...thinking that it would be 3 hours of painful torture😆😃

But, actually...as I grew older, I finally decided to give them a chance. I must say some r really out of this world. There was great focus on the poetry...each word in a song was chosen with much precision to convey the right emotion. Not like today. Don't get me wrong...we've had some amazing songs. Yet, not that many songs are as good as they use to be.

This movie was done entirely in poetry (i.e. all the dialogues spoken by each character). The songs were amazing! And in my opinion, it is the BEST ADAPTATION of the story Heer Ranjha.

I always envisioned Yug&Vrinda's story going in this direction...minus the deaths at the end.

This song is perfect for yuvi because the lyrics r so applicable to their situation. Especially the part where the actress addresses her father near the end....could totally see this playing out with Vrinda and DB. I would have really liked it if DB had also gone after Yug to bring him back like the father does in this song.

Please please check it out. Give it a chance...listen to the entire song before you chuck it as an OLDIE...lol.
Post comments.

omg !!!! wooww neetu, you dont knoe but soooooooo many chilhood mamories just falshed back. when i was really really young, my parents too rented that video (till thie day that particular versionm of heer ranjha is my mums all time favourite. she compares everything to it......even tspls !) and i remember the 3 of us stayed up all night to watch it, coz they had to return it the next day. and like you mentioned, i too found it boring back then, i never watched all of it coz i fell asleep. but i have allways remembered this one particular scene. when heer has been married off, and i think she wearing pink, and she is crying inside the doli. and ranjha has found out about her marriage, yet he still goes after her, and hes wearing these purple clothes i think..yeah.....and he jumps into the river and starts swimming, and its just heartbreaking to see how desperate he is. and a song is being played..cant remember what......but thats all i remember, and it allways breaks my heart. infact even at that young age i remember wanting to cry, but was too embarrassed to infront of mum and dad.
the last time that scene popped into my head was when yug was late for vrindas wedding, and all i could think about was heer ranjha.
you are right, outr yuvi are so so similar to them. you know everyone allways comapres them to laila majnu (i have to) but, really vrinda is nothing like laila (she was dark skinned....yes its true, and was more clever than vrinda) and majnu....was never as confident as yug, hence why he bacame a majnu (his real name was cais).
but yug is so like ranjha, he stayed at vrindas village undercover for soo long.
and vrinda looks and acts the same as heer too.
any way sorry about the reminiscing.....getting back to the topic.......yes that song was brilliant, it totally sums up our yuvi.
those words....those two lines......they ripp my heart out man.
do dil tootey.....do dil haare
duniya walo..........sadke tumhare !
i just wish, that yuvi's outcome is different, i want them to overcome all this crap and be united and LIVE TOGETHER !
i want this heer ranjha to have justice !

@Shab: I remember that scene! I always cry at that scene because I know he's not going to make it and yet, he's trying anyways. I mean he knows that she's married already, and yet he's still trying to get to her. And your so right, I didn't realize this at the time....but that part where Yug is trying to reach Vrinda's wedding is so similar😲. On the whole, this movie was awesome. It remains to this day one of my favorites. There is a poem in it...that Ranjha says to Heer...the last two lines were simply beautiful (it happens during the scene when she first comes to meet him in his "little house" on their property). In terms of this song, its my second favorite in the whole movie. The first one is another sad number sung by the male lead after he he finds out that she has gotten married and he forsakes the whole world to become a priest.

@Rani: Thank you so much for giving this video a try, hun. Luv u for that🤗 And the lines you chose....those r my favorite. I could totally picture Vrinda saying those to DB.

Tumko pana zindigi hai mere
Tumko kona mote(death)
Aur kuch mere fasane mein nahin
Mang luuga khuda se mein
Ya chura lu ga mein
Tujh sa anmol moti aur uske kazane mein nahin.

Sorry Shab. My hindi is not so good. But the poem goes something like this. It was beautifully delivered by Raj Kumar (Lead male actor)...he was the best! My fav.

aquiring you is life
loosing you is death
i will ask god
if not i will steal
for there is no other priceless jewel as you, in his treasures.
truely beautifull, lyrics neetu.....love them. just shows the passion and hight of his love for her.
and raj kumar was a great actor, my mum loves him...she loves his voice too.
that thing you said before....about ranjha knowing he wont be able to stop the doli, but he just wont give up.....that really made me cry. True love, its sees no boundaries does it !
the rules of the world and society dont matter, yet still some how they won ...such a shame !

In a way, society did win because they couldn't be together in the end. Yet, society also lost in a way too...for, though they could not live together, they died together.

That's what I love about these stories, especially this one. It wasn't the girl sacrificing her life but rather the guy. Ranjha loved her so much that when he found her dead in the doli that he brought home, he took his own life. He couldn't imagine life without her. Who loves that much in today's world? Today's Ranjha would just go marry someone else after a few months...😆....I know, I have a very pessimistic view of love.
