He is often referred to as Bholenath', translated as the Lord (Nath) of simplicity (Bhole). The word bhole' in Hindi means down to earth and innocent. He is easy to please and showers his blessings on his devotees without any complex rituals. He gets easily pleased with simple puja, a Kalash of water and bael leaves.

Lord Shiva is known as Chandrasekhara - 'Person who wears the moon'.

Lalataksha, one who has an eye in the forehead

He is also referred as Tryambaka for the third eye, placed on his forehead. It is the eye of wisdom, free from "Maya, the illusion, and duality of life. It looks beyond the obvious with clear perception, and shows one what is true.
