Hey there all the lovely people!!
It's a Sunday and I am back with another piece of insanity-it's totally off beat... in short it's absolute nonsense - read at your own risk, I have done my Sunday tradition of torturing you all 😉
OS : Mine
Uma stared at the calendar on his table, it was the fifteenth day, two weeks of dead silence...ever since he came back from Kerala each day passed longer than the previous, his breath caught at the slightest ring of the phone, he was waiting for her to call... there had been a few blank calls he could swear were from her, he could hear her silence... but why wasn't she talking, he had held the phone as long as she didn't disconnect it. He was getting weary of waiting, he ran his hand through his hair, angry at himself for not asking for her number, not asking her address or even knowing her full name... it was more like after Kanak he couldn't listen anymore... his fist balled up, smashed on the table in frustration and his tea cup rattled. He composed himself as gabbasa entered knocking on his office door. Uma listened to the schedule for the day, at the end Gabbasa kept a wedding invite on top of the files, saying the Rathis have invited him to their daughter's wedding. The word wedding caught Uma off guard, his plans of marriage were still hanging mid air, the love of his life Kanak had disappeared, "Kanak he muttered under his breath, his eyes didn't catch the name of the wedding card, lying a few inches away from him.
Uma decided to excuse himself from attending the wedding, but he would personally go a day earlier to give his regards and wishes, as the Rathis were well known and reputed members of the community, and his patient too... He stood at the door when Arun Rathi and his wife came to greet him, he called them Bhabho and babasa lovingly as their grandson Ved and Vansh, he had met them a few times but not their sister. Bhabho served him tea, for it was her that had made him drink his first cup ever, he sipped the tea in delight, a familiar taste nudged his unconscious but he was relishing it forgetting all his woes for a moment, when the air got heavy, the chandan was in air. He shook his head as the House was in full preparation for a wedding chandan was bound to be around. A soft jingle broke his thought process, he turned his head and his eyes widened - time froze for him, Kanak was descending down the stairs, running behind Vansh, saying "bhaiya not fair ... Kanak was their sister, Rathi family's daughter... she looked beautiful in lehnga - she was getting married... he stood up as soon as the truth came crashing down to him. Kanak was getting married to someone else. "What happened Uma sa? Babasa asked. Following his gaze, Babasa added "that is our Kanak. He tone changed as Bhabho glared in annoyance.
A thousand questions, allegations, accusations ran through his mind... how could she agree to this. Uma turned mechanically towards Bhabho and said " it's been long since I met Vansh Bhabho nodded in approval and Uma excused himself.
He walked towards her, his feet weighing a ton, she was his... why is she marrying someone else, she was so engrossed that she didn't even notice him... she laughed and ran towards a room. Good he made a mental check... he followed her in and closed the door... she turned saying "this is cheating looking at him she froze.
Their dreams, their conversations, their walks, their promises, their time spent together everything flashed through their minds, for none had expected things to unfold like this. Anger crushed all sane thoughts Uma had of getting to know her side of story "cheater is crying foul acid dropped from his tone. Kanak cowered back, she had feared this day, this confrontation, yes she had cheated him when she agreed to the marriage, but what choice did she have...she had called him several times only to hang up, for she couldn't find courage to tell him that she was marrying someone else. She was going to tell him the truth tonight, but fate had another plans, he was here, in her house, in a room with her and he was angry.
"It's not what it seems like, I had no choice... I wanted to refuse but I couldn't because ... because she was unable to complete her sentence.
"Because it's so like you, to break someone's heart, to cheat and lie and make false promises and now you don't even have the courage to tell the truth, liar. He snapped at her. "You couldn't refuse ... what happened in Kerala then, what were the last 3 months about, you changed my life, my perspective about love, you bare my heart only to plunge the knife of betrayal in it ... what happened to our friendship... you couldn't refuse he scoffed at her.
Tears brimmed in her eyes, " I didn't lie, I didn't cheat, your love - our love changed everything... I had been rejected for so long that I had forgotten about being cared for ... I had yearned for Bhabho's love all my life and when she asked my approval for this marriage I couldn't refuse, for she accepted me as her grandchild, I couldn't refuse her love she cried her heart out to him.
"Wonderful... Uma slow clapped at her with sarcasm "... the ever smart, lady warrior Kanak came up with such a brilliant solution... she looked at him confused , for he was not understanding, or had she done it all wrong ... her eyes widened in horror.
" ... you bargained your life for an illusion of love, Love is not a deal, an exchange of sorts. I don't know your equation with Bhabho, but this marriage is not a solution for any of us Uma countered her appeal, his anger melted at her state of dilemma, her error forgotten.
He walked towards her and shook her out of her dazed teary state, asking her to understand the consequences of her decision... it wasn't that Bhabho's choice would be wrong, but her acceptance was for all the wrong reasons.
She broke down in his arms and he held her as tight as he could to suffocate the agony out of her, "what will we do now? She asked looking at him... Uma took a deep breath and said "I will set everything right and wiped the traces of tears from her eyes. "You are mine and I won't let your Bhabho take you away from me he said looking directly into her eyes.
"She would be heartbroken, and it will be because of me Kanak said with fresh tears brimming up in her eyes.
"I know her, she would understand, that we are meant to be together... you have done your part to make this mess, now it's my turn to clean it up "... don't worry, i won't let you run away from me... this is not over yet, the ordeal you put me through, you will pay for it penny by penny he assured her with a wicked gleam in his eyes, and pulled her to himself...
Epilogue -
Two hours later, the whole scenario had changed, the groom was changed and marriage of convenience had turned into a love match... Uma and Kanak were getting married the next day on the same mahurat and mandap... Bhabho agreed reluctantly, she had only wanted Kanak off her hands, so she agreed to Uma's proposal, as Kanak would be happy. Uma knew the grudge was intact, but that would be resolved in due time, he would make sure of that.
Rocks and chappals are always welcome 🤗
Epilogue is just random words thrown together to give the story a kind of closure. My apologies if it looks weirdly and abnormally fast paced.
Thank you.
