Although he did remark that he has learned a lot from Maasi-sa...I think Uma is educated in his field. He has a huge library of books in his medicinal/personal room...some of the titles are in English. There also appear to be class photos on the wall.
In addition when Vansh had brought Bhabasa for treatment, and they ran into Uma...he didn't tell them that he is the doctor they are looking for...because Vansh had assumed him to be a simpleton and Uma wanted to see the look of surprise in his face when he found out that Uma was anything but a simpleton. š
Also, the way Uma was looking over Bhabasa's previous medical records, the way he maintains his own records and property deeds...so well organized...so knowledgeable...I'm certain he didn't learn all that just from Maasi-sa.
We don't know for sure if Suman and Shiv go to school...but we know that they do receive formal education...Shiv almost always has a book in his hands...some times math sometimes something else...and Suman apparently failed 7th grade more than once...but is a good writer. Maybe there aren't many options in Ladno and they are home schooled.
The family doesn't watch TV, which is fine...because there is more junk than good on the air these days...but they are well aware of world affairs because they read the newspaper.
I have to agree with the forum members that already commented...that we have been so wrapped up in the Uma-Kanak tashan that we really don't know much about Uma, his background, or his family. Kanak never really gave him a chance...never got to know him...and the few days she was in his home...she spent hating him (albeit rightly so š) and fighting him.
I think once Kanak will go back to Uma...and we all know she will...Uma's background story will be opened up. And it may wind up being an eye-opener for the viewers as well as Kanak.
