Kanak is digging herself deeper, and it is not just the wading she did into the sea where she could have easily drowned. It is at every moment she spends with this man, posing as his wife. She is in an intimate setting of that room, playing the part of the married couple with Uma for the most part. She is going through the rituals seemingly faithfully. She is wearing his mangal sutra and sindoor. Naive in some ways as she is, even sharing the same bed. She could have insisted on sleeping outside or on the floor & Uma would have had to oblige under the circumstances. She might be trying not to evoke suspicion but is not thinking of the repercussions. She was resourceful enough to avoid the branding but has put herself in danger of being branded nevertheless by this so called society. In Ladnu, she had no choice since the whole town was against her but here in Kerala, she could have raised a hue and cry at the temple, summoned the police, gotten in touch with her brothers and punished Uma for the forced marriage and kidnapping. Bhabho's papers could have been easily looked into there as well.
Why is she putting herself through all this? On the one hand, She thinks it is too much of a risk to take with Bhabho's shop at stake. On the other, It is also a misguided attempt to win back Bhabho's love as confirmed by her daydream of Bhabho bestowing her approval. She thinks she has to do it all by herself and not get her brothers involved as she very well knows, Bhabho will give all the credit to to them and only brickbats to her. Kanak does not mind sacrificing herself or her future for this woman who thinks she is upholding the legacy of Suraj Sandhya through that shop whereas their true legacy was the legacy of love. Love towards each other, towards the parents, siblings and their children which ultimately led to them sacrificing their lives for their daughter with a smile on their faces. Bhabho fills her small heart with hatred for an innocent, and leads this child once to attempted suicide and now to a similar fate. Maasi is literally dressing Kanak up for the kill and now she has to make a break for it under much more dangerous circumstances, probably in the dead of the night where she can fall prey to all sorts of stuff. Oh for the love of Bhabho!, please teach this old lady a lesson so that she at least does not do this in her next janam.

deebz... heart rendering post.. a grand daughters love for a bitter grandmother.. yes in her younger days.. Santosh held kanak responsible for the demise of her children.. as years flew by Kanak as the excluded one toughened up in living away from home.. like any young pupil involved in living away from home for higher education.. the gap in her life was missing the home environment.. but to win back bhabo's love become and still remains the goal of her live.. only kanak perhaps doesn't realize that bhabo over the years has perhaps lost the ability to think straight. Bhabo will perhaps find it harder to catch on to the trials and tribulations Kanak goes through to retrieve the shop's papers.. if you ask me Kanak's attempts may go unoticed as her brothers and aunt have stuck their oar in.. contrary to what Kanak is undertaking..Now some major drama from Uma's side ,threatening Kanak's life before Bhabo.. just may.. if we are lucky.. spark loyalty in Bhabo for Suraj Sandhya's daughter!.. If only Bhabo can see her dead children's strengths in this only precious daughter.of Rathihousehold..
I suspect Kanak will stick to her goal of winning back bhabo's lap for hereslf... after all whose grandaughter is Kanak? Santosh Rathi's!
thanks for a lovely post... love hammie

Great Post Deebz.
Agree with you. I have never been all that fond of Bhabho. She and Uma have a lot in common. Uncompromising and they think they are always right. 🤪 In Season 1 - she was often the villain in Sandhya & Suraj's life. All the matkis and even drugging Sandhya so she misses her exam. She used all fair and foul means to get Sandhya to give up on her dreams. Now she is abusing Kanak. The tradition continues. Senility is not enough of an excuse. Babasa should have divorced her and not just separated. She prefers a shop to the real life living breathing legacy of Suraj & Sandhya. All the girl needs is an ounce of love. A lap to rest upon. A blessing.

Uma is a civilized Gunda. But, he has capacity to love. Hopefully in the long term he can heal the wounds that Bhabho has given her granddaughter.

I wouldn't go so far as to say Bhabo was the villain in Surya's lives. 😆

She was a very traditional mother, who expected a certain kind of Bahu for her son...someone who was not very educated and could keep house. She was under the impression that she was getting just that and then found out that was not the case.

I was never surprised that she was upset, nor did I expect her to suddenly accept the fact that Sandhya wanted to study or become an IPS officer.

So, much of Season 1 was the age old tussle of the expectations of the MIL versus the dreams of the DIL, and the loyal son/husband stuck in the middle trying to keep both happy.

Suraj wasn't always able to maintain a balance...and there were many times that he bowed to his mother's wishes rather than openly support Sandhya. But perhaps that was needed...partly due to his respect for his mother...but also because Sandhya had to make a place in Bhabo's heart...that was something Suraj could support her in but she had to do it herself.

It wasn't easy, but nothing worthwhile in life is. Sandhya earned Bhabo's love...and then Bhabo loved her immensely in return.

I don't know what to say about Kanak...she is constantly reminding herself of whose daughter she is...but she is way too immature and acts without thinking about all the consequences.

She is foolish if she thinks Bhabo will suddenly love her for "rescuing" the sweet shop. She never even once considered the fact that the shop may have been sold legally.

And what happens if she does manage to runaway? All Uma has to do is show up and say we're married and shared a room, and Bhabo will hand her over to him and apologize for the disgrace this girl has caused. That is just how Bhabo and her traditional thinking will work.

Honestly I think it is stupid for Bhabo to blame a baby for her parents demise. If it had been her baby, would she not have risked her life to save it? She needs to realize that the 3 that suffered the most from the loss of Surya were their 3 children. How does she think she would face them if they learned of her attitude towards Kanak?

I'm at a loss as to how Kanak will win Bhabo's love. I know it's not going to be something as simple as returning her sweet shop to her.

I think the problem lies in the way off thinking...her mind is set on the fact " everything for the shop" ... or everything for the fly...ppl should realize the reality of achieving a goal...what is the outcome...and be realistic about it...
Kanak only sees her goal...not her own honor or safety who is at stake now...everything for bhabo...I already ask: why is she wearing the MS when she doesn't accept the marriage...

Coming to bhabo, she has always been a self centered person...everything for her own good or for her sooraj...which was never n his best interest nor did she really considered his feelings...so I have no hopes for her...

Lovely post ,really thought provoking but also a bit sad to think a young girl will go through so much just to get the motherly love that she couldn't receive from her mom as she was cruelly snatched from her so she wants it from her grandmother who is to such a cold hearted person and rigid person.she is not a great example of a mother her own children with the exception of suraj is a testament to her skills as a mother.
Baboo , on the other hand is willing to accept Pavan who it a product of an illlegimate relationship and whose very existence have destroyed the life off her son dil and other grandchildren but she can't accept Kanak whose only fault was that her parents loved her so much they willingly sacrificed their lifes for their baby , didnt Baboo sacrifice and destroy her family for the love of her child by accepting his illlegimate child. Please note I am basing the illlegimate child issue on the consequences in the serial it is not my personal view

I just wish that Kanak could understand that Baboo is a bitter woman who has no love or compassion for this child who lost her whole world as a little girl. She was further snatched away from the love and care off an extended family and her brothers by been sent away to school. This child grew up independantly her only goal in life is to achieve the maternal love of her grand mother. it is so sad cos she is not thinking about her future or her reputation as a woman who lived n slept in the same bed as the man she wants to run away from.she doing all the rituals for a good married life with him. She allows him to touch her and hold her although innocently but he does it as her husband , he believes it his right to able to do this with her as she is his. She is not realizing all this will only make it impossible for him to allow her to leave him.
Kanak needs to be loved , Uma Shankar is the only one who can give her unconditional love she deserves but that's a long way off. He is now attracted to the first woman in his life he feels she is his possession and if she doesn't runaway he will not be jerked out of this false sense off complenency. He has this thought that he is the king off his world and she must just fall into place in his life but that won't do for kanak.
Once she realizes she wants this marriage to work then the fun will begin cos he is gonna have his false sense of right n wrong shaken up and so will his rigid believes. For Kanak to get to the point of accepting thus marriage to him she is gonna have give up on her dream off attaining Baboos love cos I just feel that nail in da coffin is gonna be baboo telling her to go to her husband even after knowing it was a forced marriage. Kanak will be broken once this happens cos I can't see anybody else standing up against Baboo s decision to give kanak justice , Ved n vansh only really and truly care about Baboo and in the event allowed their baby sister to grow up knowing Baboos hatred for her and her been separated from the family to please Baboo even taking away her rights to be part of her parents prayer all for this cold woman who can't believe that her son and dil loved somebody more than her that they willingly gave up their lives.

Sorry for babbling but the injustice that Kanak suffered at Baboos hand is frustrating and Ved and Vanshs cowardly acceptance of this is not what their parents would be happy abt.

Thank you all for the great responses.
@Hammie, you are a sweet soul who tries to see the good in everyone and we are conditioned to respect the elderly. But Bhabho here is deluded in the most awful way. Only for Kanak's sake, would I root for Kanak to make this hatred disappear. I would prefer it if Kanak realizes that she does need that for her survival, holds her head up high and moves on.😊

@Anjana, I could not have said it better. The poor orphaned Sandy fought hard for Bhabho's love which the lady bestowed very conditionally after some terrible behavior. Now the history repeats for Kanak. Here Kanak is even her own flesh and blood begging for a little love. Very sad.

@Fatima, Bhabho has given one of her famous vachans to Mayank's parents. She will also hold Kanak responsible for breaking it in addition to handing her over to Uma. I would say Sandy loved Bhabho immensely and bhabho, loved her when it suited her.

@Shali, Yes that is what happens when one's own parent or grandparent disowns him or her.It is the worst feeling that can make one go quite crazy. That is Kanak's state now.

@Taniks, You have rightfully listed even more of Bhabho's injustices towards this innocent girl. I completely agree with you that Kanak is in for more heartbreak where that relationship is considered. Ironically her only hope is Uma but not without a lot of struggle. sigh..
