It's a short, preliminary or lesser performance before the main show. It might give a sneak preview of things to come ahead. Today's episode lends itself to drapes, or curtains .curtains , which are long pieces of varied textiles that can run down from the ceiling to the floor ,to exclude light, prevent draughts or more so to maintain one's privacy. Curtains also create partitions and divisions within a room as well. There are many phrases that revolve around the term curtain. Right from the very start the prop of drapes is used, to create a curtain raiser. An indication of what seems to have transpired between the newlyweds Uma and Kanak. The spectators are spell bound at the message being passed on to them. That all is well with them
The party taking the trip for the purification ceremony are all ready to travel but for Kanak. She thinks only about the missed opportunity of getting her hands on the key to his cupboard. It's not curtains down! for her reinforcement of ideas. As it so happens, one of the drapes falls on her head. Her eye is still on the key on Uma's body also on the heap of curtains beside his feet. Deep in thought she walks towards him purposefully. Slips and is caught by his arms.. The imbalance, of both causes an incredible reflex from both! For support they grab each other and the curtains by them. The rest within seconds! is a spectacle of two bodies ,spinning ,whirling, revolving ,pressed together in a tight knit cocoon of long sheer curtains! Uma keeps twisting with her pressed against him. Kanak cannot believe the masterstroke of one lucky spin! He is close enough and is totally diverted by her frame plastered against his! Her hand gropes for the key and this uncanny spin bequeaths her what she desires.. She closes her warm palm around the cold metal key it! Now with the key in her possession , supported by her glowing beauty ,she is sure he will not feel his weight lighter by one key. Mission impossible! Becomes mission accomplished! Palomi beholds the scene and within her wakes up the green eyed monstrosity called jealousy. Her decorum ,tranquillity unleashes fury and frenzy within her! With a dagger in hand she lashes her rage! Slashes, rips and knives precariously! at the outer layer of the hung curtains. She would ring down the curtain! And put an end to their public performance, this uncalled for event! Like a banshee palomi show's her rage of being rejected by Uma ,By slashing the sheer curtains! Massi arrives, in horror beholds Uma and Kanak in a twisted posture, within the drapes! She yells! In time Suman checks and stops Palomi! Who stops in daze! Mutters.. She saved them from suffocation . Uma hears her whine.. But fails to catch on to the silent fact that Palomi inwardly smothers in love for him, thus he also cannot possibly realize that seeing him with his wife in a a brought on freak occurance could possibly emotionally choke Palomi!! Massi who already imposes the iron curtain policy of creating decorum barriers between them is not to pleased and takes Kanak to task whatever was the need to create such a spectacle! Kanak is already on the path of twisting this lot around her little finger.. And where ever possible she would wield some control of them in the nicest possible way! Comes up by spinning some yarn of her anklet coming apart! Massi's devious mind suspects Kanak of helping herself to anklets from the vault.. Without her knowledge! Moment to moment, Uma's wife is seen involved in strange acts that baffle her. she seems to have bewitched him!
In every moment where the curtains are pulled back to reveal something about her, Kanak manages to wrangle herself out to suit her needs! Such is her strong focus. When told to get ready to leave! As they might miss the train! Kanak only thinks about missing precious time in this house to complete her mission. Now all the more as she has the key in her possession. With composure she tells Massi she wishes to change her clothes! The answer she gets is no! The moment arrives where Uma dares to cross the iron curtain! He challenges Massi's decision by allowing Kanak to change her clothes!! Looks like Massi sees the walls of her authority rumbling as so taken in by Kanak is Uma, that he dares to undermine and override her decision! Kanak on the other hand is not into scoring little victories by creating rifts between Uma and his Massi, her interest only lies in getting to the cupboard as soon as possible! At Rathi house too, searches are on.. One for the shops papers and two for a suitable bride for Golu, in both occasions its curtains! As babbsa's eyes and his memory are both feeble so not much luck there! Regards Golu's marriage , the potential girls parents who come to check him up ,end up preferring Vansh much to meenakshi's indignation! Golu's obesity poses a problem So this family seems to be having pot luck for the moment.
Suspense as both massi and Kanak move to respective rooms to pull back the curtains to reveal that which blocks the vision. Massi heads for the vault and finds the anklets there! Instead of gracing Kanak's ankles. She catches Kanak's lie , but it's her need to lie that now prey's heavily on massi d mind! She will have to keep her radar on Kanak, as there is something suspicious about her, massi reflects. Kanak gets to Uma's private cupboard! Its raising the curtains above it.. She gains access to it . As it is, the first piece of white paper she comes across is.. Her sketch of lord Shiva! The moral issue looms up before her, its theft she is about to commit. She appeals to lord Shiva, will he show leniency towards what she is about to do.. Basically , she s taking back that which rightfully belongs to her Bhabo.. Something tells her that the lord who brought her so far , will surely listen to her appeal with compassion! Kanak finds the precious papers! But the revelation of the signatures puts her in a quandary!! It bothers her why would her Bhabo sell the shop in the first place? And it's Uma's signature but Bhabo's thumbprints!! Well, thinks Kanak if she knows not the answers, then she will go to the judiciary to contest and clarify! But Kanak will keep the papers on her person! Well pleased by her ultimate victory she returns to her room gives thanks to lord Shiva! And now to plan her escape route! Going down the window all the way to the ground! Kanak decides she will abandon the trip.. Now it's time to escape after all she's got what she came for!The rest is just a bad dream!
Where Kanak celebrates her victory in the privacy of her room. Massi needs a catharsis with her older sister . She off loads, that ever since his marriage , she feels she is losing control over Uma. She feels that due to his naivety and simplicity he is more and more being taken over by Kanak's almost occult and mysterious hold. Massa clearly disagrees with her badmouthing Kanak..telling her that Kanak has stored many secrets. As maasa glares at the ceiling above her. Massi reinforces about her careful and committed nurturing of Uma. How she tried to inculcate in him, to differentiate between right and wrong. With a sigh! she confesses that she may have falling short in her teachings. Massi decides , now that Uma is married ,she will need to lookout more from him..
Kanak in her room is ready to pull down the curtains on her stay in this house and in this sham role of Uma's wife! That Ravan whom she never accepted as her husband! Last act this one is for her.. briskly all excited she reaches out for her bag is about to shove the precious papers in when .. the door opens.. and in saunters Uma Shankar with a ornate box in his hand. Kanak startles , levels up and briskly hides the papers under her flimsy veil behind her back.. he progress towards her with a smile. She looks up at him wide eyed. .. precap.. he adorns her with the necklace.. but then the key falls on the floor! Uma looks down at it ,inclines and with full composure picks up the key. Kanak stares at him trying to read his expression. Is it curtains for her, regards the papers??
Overall an interesting episode..have to say that the Rathi house bits are gradually becoming less engaging.. or may be I am missing out the connections.. Palomi's scene was , eruption of a volcano.. she may be rebelling against the idea of being kept away from the family trip. Its interesting to watch how Suman latches on to her more than she does .. is Suman lacking attention? Well its our Kanak who is making a difference to many in the household.. have a relaxing Sunday .. love hamlet53 7.5.17
