TSMSPJep:22 :27.4.17:My Impressions: moderate, persistent, persuasion.

When faced with opposition and stiff criticism, often various strategies are put in place by the influential party, to convince or sway the opposing party into complying . The stronger party can either exert brute force upon the weaker one or instead use the tack of moderate yet diligent form of force to dissuade the weak one from their stance. Today's example is a silent, yet loud enough battle of control between two equally, potent forces ..the wick and the flame.. Uma Shankar and Kanak. Both fight the stand of their mindset from their corner. There is a defined right and wrong, a difference of opinion , a lack of understanding between Uma and Kanak regards their marriage. In fact on this disagreement they both agree. The episode also throws light upon the skilful manner in which Uma Shankar is able to smoothly change his whole personality accordingly, to cater to the needs of a given situation.

It's not unseen that Uma holds the upper hand in this whole forced marriage case. This too is undeniable that by the use of his tough arm, chivvied by the signs of the gods the wedding is done and dusted with. Another battle won, is overpowering Kanak's escape and actually getting her before his house. But getting her to step into his family house is going to require brain power too. Uma is a figure head of faith in the community at large. Therefore it has to be seen both, by his wife and the people at large that a gentle form of force is exerted upon the Kanak.Uma actually reminds me of a teacher who is understanding, yet firm and consistent in what he expects as acceptable behaviour from a pupil. His presence of mind actually makes him dangle a peace offering before Kanak, the chance to meet her family. This might just soften her heart enough, to lead her to his doorstep. Of what he is capable off she has seen!! she rejects the idea as she has visions of her whole family bound , roped at gunpoint by this beast called Uma Shankar! and then floods of tears follow! No way will she ever let him get to her family! He has trapped her and messed her life! Kanak finds even his moderate efforts as heavy handed and dangerous!! Uma can see he is losing control! so again he tries the tender loving approach. Yet, he consistently serves her reminders they are married! As her husband he only looks out for her happiness, yes he confesses they start on the wrong foot but his sentiments are genuine.. they are ordained to be husband and wife. Kanak makes good use of his toned down demeanour and begs for her freedom! Like a bird ensnared by the fowler ! She reasons and pleads the meetings he quotes with her were mere coincidences and not the will of the gods! So if he wants to grant her happiness, he should set her free!! as relationships cannot be based on a set of coincidences. Uma, continues to be persistent, about his belief that the lords omens cannot be dismissed as mere occurrences. They are man and wife till eternity now ! it cannot be reversed! and confirms the power of his words and the lords will, he once again ties the sacred knot that symbolizes their nuptials. Uma exerts might in showing understanding , meeting her half way.. but not allowing her all supremacy as he maintains he is still right in the stance that he took!

Crossing the threshold! sacred ritual for the new bride and her in laws. It's to do with bestowing acceptance to the male figure's wife, initially an outsider to be taken into the fold. The son's wife is seen as the revered figure of goddess Lakshmi a symbol of wealth and prosperity. But this image of Lakshmi , has more the defiance of the goddess Kali who has been wronged! Hence for Kanak it's the moment to hold back her foot outside the household as a sign of protest against this forced marriage! Her act is condemned by all present guests! The family ,for Uma's sake have to cordially request her to forgo her adamant turn, and step into the house following ritual requirements! But Kanak digs her heels in! and stands outside the door post with Uma tied in the sacred knot with her. When harsh criticism hurls at her. Uma gets the opportunity to win her heart, alongside the hearts of the guests. He makes it clear his wife stands not alone outside the threshold! but he as her husband too stands by her! such irony Uma tells all off firmly, none is to pressurize Kanak to cross the threshold. Subtly he tells her with moderate persistence, that she will cross over when she is ready!!! Her readiness is a long time coming.. but already Uma's image of being the committed husband who stands by his wife in dire straits is obvious as both remain outside the threshold!! joined by the sacred knot..

Bhabo's memories of her lamp and wick! Suraj and Sandhya give her nostalgic moments of their sacred knot.. how it held them till eternity! how their married life was an example of two bodies woven together in one soul! She smiles..who would have thought theirs was not a love marriage?

Ved Rathi the strong hand of law! meets Payal's parents in terms of getting their daughter married off to a photograph.. and why they didn't lodge a complaint? He is rebuffed by the parents as one interfering in their daughters happily married life! Soon they will complain about him if he doesn't back off! Goes to show such crimes will continue to be committed till people like Payal's parents continue to protect the criminals! So is Ved too, like Kanak being swamped by criminal acts committed under the clean safe haven of faith? Pity in both cases it's two women who are put through hell. Chilling fact is both cases are related to the one called Uma Shankar!

As destiny has it Gabbasa, the man Kanak came in search of to Ladnun weaves in and out of the guests on the other side of the threshold, carrying out odd jobs! Kanak fails to spot him. At one point he brushes past her from the inside of the house, as she stood in the door way. Near miss! if only she had met him earlier! The mess she is now could have been averted! It's all about testing the waters with, this lamp and wick..

Kanak obdurately continues her silent protest against the forced marriage she is trapped into.. she stands outside the threshold. Her devout husband Uma too stands by her stubbornly. Her foot inside the house will prompt his entry into the house too. They both in order to outshine other each go nil by mouth! refuse the comfort of chairs. Their interaction, now is reduced to silence. Surya, sun god favours his devout follower Uma Shankar! creates ripples between the lamp and the wick. Kanak moves her face only to be blinded by Surya's splendid blazon! Kanak as brilliant as gold! is created for his devotee Uma Shankar is blinded by Surya's glory. Kanak blinks bedazzled. Uma's hand screens her face! and the sun gods warmth passes through Uma's guarding palm close to Kanak's heart.. but she moves ahead of Uma.. he stands behind her lapping in Surya's fire! Thus the radiance of the sun deity passes through Uma, towards his wife Kanak who moves closer to the threshold! Suddenly enlightenment !! Kanak eyes beholds inside the house, Gabbasa the man she came looking for all the way from Puskar to Ladnun! Its a win ! win! Situation! Kanak crosses the threshold to grasp the purpose she aspires for.. and steps into Uma Shankars house as the purpose drivenbride!..

Overall, an interesting followup to the actual marriage ceremony. Uma's warm frigity is fun to watch..he is no easy to grasp man.. kanak too have to say ,gets her word in.. however he cajoles her into calm.. but like she only enters the house with her firm intent in mind.. Palomi's prohetic words that Uma shankar can help you , are keeping me on edge now.. will kanak come clean with him about Bhabo's shop?? lets hope he obliges kanak..hamlet53 28.4.17

Read it and its beautiful... Its like you were right their into their soul to understand their feeling.
The silence treatment means a lot of things here...the fear...the pain...the hopelessness...the weakness...the ...shattered dreams.
Wow...its beautifully narated👏

Wow hammie, I loved the way u watched the episode.fantastic really.the intro para. persuation ...US is rainning his love n concern for kanak.the scene is too cute, the face of reha was so so cutie. U mentioned the sun God whom US worships.this sun ray scene reminds me of the Sun God's marital life according to Hindu mythology. The rays of the sun God was so powerful that his wife sandhya/sanjh had to leave him, cz she could not cope with his warmth. Here I feel Uma, our surya/suraj is going to bring his rules, his constitution, his beliefs upto an optimum level for his sanjh.n this sanjh will b strong enough to take all the warmth he can provide.she wont try to escape.

Story is in its own place, but a part of me is pissed with the justification of the forceful marriage, jodi made in heaven n signal wagera.specially where bhabo was talking about some parallel conditions.I hated the comparison.why they had to promote such things, to let us know that women dont have a say on anything. Uthao aur uthake shadi karo, gun point pe shadi, uthake lake shadi, and the public are such a good audience.yes I like avinesh rekhi.but not liking the self contradiction US fave birth to.he himself speaks against violence, forcing things on someone...he sounds wise.still he doesnt know anything, how his actions cant b justified at all.well said hammie, "Like a bird ensnared by the fowler"

Keep writing hammie.n sorry for the long reply.hehehe.
