TSMSPJep:17 :21.4.17:My Impression: Alternatives in place..
Nothing can be taken for granted in life. Many times subject to circumstances, one has to disregard the original and make do with other alternatives, substitutes and replacements, to continue the flow of things. In today's episode I notice how characters adapt to situations as per required and graciously receive stand-ins. There is replacement of one person by another, but the heart gratefully goes on with the proxy, as humans can be blessed by a flexibility of the mind and heart, which can at times fare them well..
Take Kanak for example, both her parents are dead, yet she stands accountable for her actions before her two older brothers Ved and Vansh. They are in place of her parents, lovable replacements of Suraj and Sandhya's love and protection for their only daughter Kanak! They find her tall tale of going on some course for a week ,a bit lame. Luckily Meenakshi, saves her from the Spanish inquisition, of her brothers. Let her be! their sister is going on a jolly with her friends before she is eventually married off! Her brothers pull her leg hope she stays clear of boys! they don't want her falling for some!! Is this some irony hidden in her brothers words?that Mayank will be replaced by someone else? Only time will tell. Kanak within herself regrets having to tell fibs to her brothers about going to some cooking course with a friend. To cover her white lie she adds on ,who knows? she may help Bhabo in running the shop.. who knows? if Kanak's words take shape in the near future , as she becomes a replacement of her dear father Suraj at the shop.. indeed a much desired substitution! But first thing first! As babsa reminds her, save the business! Luckily her aunt and brothers think nothing of what babsa says and Kanak next aspires to gather blessings from her beloved Bhabo.. no small a task...
Still stalled at the doorstep. Payal stands waiting to enter her new home. Uma is informed Maa is held up.. Payal anxiously queries Uma, hope she doesn't mind her coming? Uma uses his presence of mind and acts as a replacement for his Maa, and thus welcomes the new bride into the house. The rituals of welcoming the bride happen at the door way of Maajisa's room. Meticulously Uma as a man, substitutes all the rituals which are traditionally carried by a woman of the household, initially .
Through Kanak's eyes we get to see an elderly, seemingly disabled woman in bed. Another, dressed in a fine sari and jewellery sits by her almost nurses her. Uma waits and then ushers Payal to tip the vessel that contains the rice and enter the room. Respect is shown by Uma to his mother. He carries on with the introductions. ,calm cool and collected ! here it seems that his mothers role is carried out in proxy by his maternal aunt. Uma refers more too his mother's sister whom they refer too as Masi ,in terms of carrying active substitution of his mother's duties and role. He informs Payal, masi reared them, is involved in decision making of the household.. that her word is revered like that of the gods! that she will be the elder of the house who will act as her mentor! As for Masi, she is in awe of Payal's beauty and hopes that Payal will not begrudge her that she failed to turn up to welcome her,as her older sister was asleep in her lap. She is optimistic that by the time Uma brings his wife home her older sister will be well enough to receive his bride! Payal gets the picture of who holds the ropes of this household. Payal receives all the honour and praise owed to her as the daughter in law.. by this rather kindly ,amiable replacement mother in law! She even commands ,Payal embellishes her own room to resemble paradise itself! But Kanak silently and sullenly wonders.. where is her groom? who knows? For the moment she is overwhelmed by their graciousness. Even though her real groom, stands replaced by some complicated concept that it's his memory she should do with..and decorate her room to feel like heaven itself..
When a man's belongings are replaced by a woman's! Some eyebrows are raised! some speculations are made! Suman is a typical teenage girl who loves to partake in the sweet thrills of what it feels like being in love.. there is no doubt what so ever in her mind that Paulomi is in love with her dadusa Uma Shankar. Suman is the one who encourages Paulmi to check the ring her brother brought for her. The ring box is empty! Paulmi's finger has been replaced with the hand that Uma silently aspires to hold.. but none not even that girl knows..even though the ring is stuck on her finger! On fumbling through his bag in the hope it may have fallen in between his clothes..more of his clothes are substituted with a women's belongings, a bangle!! a garland!! and a letter which an exuberant Suman is keen to hear!!but Uma's connection with his sandalwood fragrance girl is not meant to be revealed yet.. so Suman's curiosity is replaced by Paulmi's reluctance to read someone else s mail! Maasi comes and Uma's privacy is kept!
Kanak craves for Bhabo's sweet love.. fat chance of that happening, Bhabo busily makes jalebi's..Rani is sent from the gods for Kanak to provide a substitution for Bhabo's love in the present circumstances. Kanak like a good daughter states she'll be away for a week on a course. Bhabo shows indifference.. no surprises. Kanak wishes for the improbable. But by sheer presence of mind, Rani goes and buys jalebi for Golu! She knew Bhabo will not disagree! With those sweets.. Rani transports the alternative of Bhabo's love and blessings! to Kanak, by telling her it's a good omen to eat something sweet before one leaves home to do some work! Kanak smiles in contentment.. this is sure good enough a sign.. as she is leaving home after eating sweets made by her Bhabo's hand.. chances are she'll save Bhabo's shop!
Uma's family engages me. Today two new characters are introduced.. Suman is like a little woman.. full of beans. Uma appears very close to his siblings. Likewise is Kanak to her brothers. Uma is nearly caught out!! Well it looks like he is going to cross paths with Mz. Sandalwood fragrance again.. water seems to connect them.. this time she splashes water on her face, drops fall on Uma's face too! as his car passes by, ablution of the soul for both! before she knows it her chunni flies straight into his face... and he is hit by the ahhh.. her sandalwood fragrance.. hamlet53 22.4.17
