Salman Khan has pulled off a casting coup of sorts. The actor has almost sweet-talked his star friends to feature alongside him in sibling Sohail Khan's film, Mr and Mrs Khanna. Shah Rukh Khan leads the impressive list, followed by a band of girls - Preity Zinta, Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone.

Shah Rukh has readily agreed to make a guest appearance, and the generous actor is not charging a single penny for his role.

A reliable source says, "Shah Rukh is known to make guest appearances for his close friends and mentors. He has just shot an item number in Rakesh Roshan's Krazzy 4 and will also do a cameo role in Mr and Mrs Khanna.

As far as the ladies are concerned, Sallu shares a longstanding association with Preity; the duo has featured in Har Dil Jo Pyaar Karega (2000), Chori Chori Chupke Chupke (2001) and Jaane-E-Mann (2006). Preity is also a close family friend and is a regular at the Khan household.

Following close on the heels of Kareena Kapoor's (who plays Mrs Khanna in the film) patch-up with Salman is Priyanka Chopra who also buried the hatchet with the actor recently.

She has been in touch with Salman and agreed to do the film the moment Sohail Khan approached her.

Meanwhile, Deepika had been a front runner ever since Sohail and director Prem Soni started casting for the film. Apparently, Salman is too impressed with the newcomers charm and ease on screen and had suggested her name.

Sohail Khan has also tied up with UTV Motion Pictures, who are going to be the film's co-producers. Mr and Mrs Khanna will go on the floors in March this year.

Prem Soni says, "I'm not in a position to comment on these stars being a part of the film. Please check with Sohail."

Sohail Khan remained unavailable for comment.

SRK, Lara to perform at Balaji awards

King Khan will perform with TV's female brigade while Dutta will shake a leg with telly guys at the Balaji event

Shah Rukh Khan will perform in the grand finale with leading small screen actresses at the Global Indian TV Honours presented by Balaji while Lara Dutta will get jiggy with a couple of TV's male hotties.

The event will be held on February 1 at the Andheri Sports Complex.

It is learnt that SRK was first slated to perform with the 11 Chak De! India girls, but that didn't work out.

Says a source, "The finale starts with SRK's solo performance and then moves on to his dance with 11 TV actresses. Shah Rukh might even make an appearance as he did in his yesteryear soap Fauji.

The reason we are keen on having Shah Rukh was because he began his acting career with TV, went on to become a megastar and last year came back to TV with Kaun Banega Crorepati."
Chloe Ferns from Balaji adds, "Shah Rukh's act will be one to watch out for."

The actresses that will shake a leg with King Khan are likely to include Smriti Irani, Mona Singh, Navneet Nishan, Neena Gupta, Prachi Desai, Anita Hassanandani, Gautami Kapoor, Sakshi Tanwar and Rajshri Thakur.

On a high

The opening act features Ronit Roy cavorting with 50 female Brazilian dancers. Adds the source, "Ronit's act will be atop a 60-feet high harness. There will be six acts; some of them will feature non-Balaji artistes like Sharad Malhotra and Smriti Jha.

Balaji is ensuring that that everything is done transparently. They didn't send in nominations as they are only a production house but Zee, Sony and Star Plus have sent their nominations. We have got 370 entries from all channels."

While Bunty Walia's GS Entertainment will script, direct and execute the show, Cineyug will script and direct SRK's act. Ganesh Hegde is King Khan's choreographer with Inder calling the shots for the other acts including that of Nach Baliye winners Aamir Ali and Sanjeeda's. Sajid Khan and Malaika Arora Khan will be the hosts. Karan Johar and Ekta Kapoor will be seen together on stage doing a Koffee with Karan chat show.

Shahid hates being compared with SRK, simply because he thinks he has a long way to go before someone can even compare him to the King Khan. But there's still something common between them. And guess what the common thing between them is? Their common hairstylist, not many know that both of them share the same hairstylist.

In-fact once SRK had remarked that he is growing his hair simply because his hairstylist was on maternity leave and the same thing happened with Shahid. Their common hairstylist went on her second maternity leave and Shahid patiently waited for her return to cut his hair.

"I guess that's the only thing we have in common between us. Anyways, I love Shah Rukh Khan's hairstyle," he grins. And he finally got his chance before leaving for Australia.

Hairy tales, huh?
