Chapter 19

Later in the evening Bani passed by her parent's bedroom, she could hear her mom cry while her dad comforted her. She obviously seemed upset and was worried about Pia after all she had ran away to a foreign place where she knew no one.

Her father did the best to reassure her mother and to believe they were doing the most they could in order to find Pia.

Bani finished packing her clothes silently as their flight to New York was tomorrow. Her mind drifted to last week when they finally heard from Pia. She called the Dixit home during the evening and talked to Priya for a while at first. Priya was upset but relieved to hear from Pia.

She controlled herself from yelling but instead tried to persuade Pia to come home where everyone was worried about her. Pia avoided the topic of coming back home and informed Priya she was fine, bagging a modeling contract already with a well-known model agency.

Priya was glad to know her daughter was achieving her dreams but she disapproved of the way she ran away from home making it clear to Pia. Pia asked forgiveness telling her over and over again she was scared of calling the marriage off and she thought irrationally.

Later Pia talked to her father after Priya urged him to talk as he was her father and couldn't stay mad at her for the rest of his life. When Bani found out Pia was on the phone she was thankful but when her father called her to talk to Pia she felt tensed.

Priya had told Pia that Bani took her place when she ran away and when Bani talked to Pia on the phone she could sense the jealously in her voice. Even though Pia apologized for her actions, her voice was different. Bani wanted to yell at her for running away and making them worried but at the same time she was happy Pia didn't marry Jai and ruin all three of their lives.

Bani snapped out of her thoughts when she heard the bedroom door open. Jai walked in, taking notice of remaining clothing Bani was packing before their flight tomorrow. "The flight is going to be early in the morning tomorrow. It's better if you sleep early so we don't miss the flight," Jai spoke gently.

Bani nodded and watched as he took a towel walking into the bathroom to take a shower. The past two weeks they interacted with each other normally but their conversations wouldn't go farther than a couple of minutes. They were getting comfortable around each other again but their friendship didn't remain the same.

Bani sighed and closed her suitcase finishing all the packing. She wore her pyjamas and laid on the bed waiting for eyelids to get heavy until she drifted off to sleep. Jai came out of bathroom later wearing his night clothes after taking a shower.

He laid on the bed quietly making sure not to wake Bani up. Finally he thought, tomorrow he would be going back to New York resuming with his normal life. Coming to Mount Abu wasn't so great after all with the whole Pia situation and wedding disaster.

Maybe the outcome was worth it though, Jai thought. Jai and Bani's relationship deteriorated but deep inside he still cared about her and maybe even loved her. They just needed to start afresh but every time Jai would want to talk to her there was a feeling of hurt and betrayal.

Hurt because he couldn't stand to be left again if another issue blocked their way and betrayal because of the past occurrences. Jai couldn't seem to move on and forget the past. He knew he had to though if he wanted a future with Bani. Jai slowly drifted off to sleep later in the night keeping in mind there was a flight to catch in the morning.
