SRK should be hockey ambassador, says Suniel Shetty
Suniel Shetty is truly impressed by Shah Rukh's performance.

Suniel Shetty is confused about being appointed the brand ambassador for hockey, particularly after watching "Chak De! India" where Shah Rukh Khan plays the coach of a women's hockey team to great effect.
"I seriously want them to reconsider my appointment. I mean, there I was being appointed brand ambassador for the game while Shah Rukh Khan is bringing hockey back into favour like nobody's business," Suniel said.

"It was an awesome experience to be given the responsibility to revive the game. I may be a right choice. But after seeing 'Chak De!', I think Shah Rukh is a much better choice for representing hockey for the country," he added.

Suniel is truly impressed by Shah Rukh's performance.

"I saw the film twice and I'm completely bowled over by Shah Rukh's performance. He could play anything. But he chooses to play this serious troubled hockey coach. I think Shah Rukh has his stardom for a good 50 years more. 'Chak De!' proves it."

Meanwhile, Suniel is happy for Sanjay Dutt, who has been granted interim bail by the Supreme Court in the Mumbai blasts case.

"It's really heartening to hear Sanju is being released on interim bail. What do I say? It's an answer to all the prayers that people have sent for him. It's the janta's goodwill that has kept him going.

"It's Sanju who has brought the concept of Gandhigiri to people. And I believe he truly believes in peace. Sanju is totally converted."

SRK's biography selling like hot cakes
Mumbai: It was a grand set designed by Nitin Desai, and dotted with a bevy of stars. At an event to mark the success of the latest book dedicated to Shah Rukh Khan, Bollywood celebrities including the star himself took turns at reading excerpts.

Titled King of Bollywood Shah Rukh Khan and the Seductive World of Indian Cinema by Anupama Chopra, the book symbolised Shah Rukh's rise to that of the post reforms 90s economy of India. And the intellectual analogy driving it has found admirers in the filmi circle.

"I think Shah Rukh redefines the cinema success story and Anupama's book chronicles this to the best," said actress Dia Mirza.

Filmmaker Karan Johar added, "It's a book that will tell the world that humane side of Shah Rukh that no one has quite known so far."

As for Shah Rukh Khan himself, his association with this biography has been so close that he has put his autobiography in the back burner for now.

"I began my book almost seven years ago and have delayed in one way or the other. Now Anupama's book is updated till 2006. And there's not a lot more to tell, I am hoping that in another four years to make it interesting," he said.

So if the success of Chak De India were not enough, SRK is now celebrating the success of his latest book. All this while though, we shall await his tell-all autobiography that shall surely spell a lot more success than this one.

Shah Rukh strips, but doesn't go full monty!
For the first time in his career, Shah Rukh Khan will strip for a scene in his upcoming film Om Shanti Om .

Years ago, when SRK was shooting Main Hoon Na with Farah Khan , he had promised her that if he ever strips before the camera, it would be for a Farah Khan film.

And now that Farah is directing Om Shanti Om for his production house Red Chillies Entertainment, SRK has fulfilled his promise.

SRK and Farah made this disclosure on Karan Johar's show Koffee With Karan. In fact, SRK went on to say that he had been building his body for his role in the film.

SRK said it was his son Aryan who made him aware that he was "fat" and needed to lose weight. Since then, SRK said, he had been working on his body and had managed to develop "four packs, two short of six packs".

While both SRK and Farah refrained from speaking about how much SRK's stripping scene in the film would reveal, Farah did say that SRK did not go fully monty. And she added that the audience would love the scene.

The show also featured SRK's co-star in the film, Deepika Padukone .

SRK to encourage public transport
Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan and Priyanka Chopra campaign to promote the use of public transport.

NEW DELHI: From pot-holes to pot-boilers, the public transport system is all set for a 70mm makeover, Bollywood style. Instead of stretch limos pulling up at red carpet dos, India's top stars may soon be seen using city buses.

/photo.cms?msid=2302224
Or even riding bicycles. All for a cause. The success of the Pulse Polio Mission starring Amitabh Bachchan has prompted a new initiative to involve top stars like Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan and Priyanka Chopra for a similar campaign to promote the use of public transport.

Apart from talking viewers into using buses and the metro, the stars may also ride bicycles on dedicated lanes to promote non-motorised transport. The government is setting up a special fund under the national urban transport policy for the purpose.

"We are setting up a fund with an initial corpus of Rs 150 crore for innovative schemes like celebrity endorsements, which can be topped up every year. The idea is to influence city-bred youth to board public transport wherever they can," a senior government official said.

Private vehicles, he said, need not be used where there is an efficient public transport option available. Also, using the car to ferry a single passenger should be discouraged when there is an alternative, like good quality buses or the metro, he added.

The new star-studded campaign ties in with the urban development ministry's efforts to pump fresh funds into the sector. The ministry has proposed an investment of Rs 1,32, 000 crore to spruce up the public transportation system in Indian cities. However, the Planning Commission is still to approve the proposal.

"We plan to use this fund in effecting a facelift in the urban transport systems in our cities under NUTP. This would include setting up modern high-capacity bus transport systems, metro rails and mono rails," the official said.
The government feels when approved, the money will help put in place a clean and efficient alternative to private vehicles.

The improved public transport system will need a bit of Bollywood dazzle to pull in the car users. That's where King Khan, the Big B and Perky Priyanka come into the picture. Once the funding mechanism and other technical details are cleared, the ministry is expected to touch base with major film stars. The finance ministry is also actively considering the possibility of increasing viability gap funding for urban transport from existing 20% to 30%.

SRK, back on Koffee With Karan
This Sunday, Karan Johar welcomes back his favourite guest Shah Rukh Khan on Koffee With Karan. He is accompanied with his Om Shanti Om director Farah Khan and costar Deepika Padukone.

Both SRK and Farah have been on Karan's chat show four times, and claim that they've been on the show as often as Karan has!

Excerpts from the fun episode:

Karan: Welcome back to Koffee with Karan, How does it feel? It is your third appearance?

Farah: Fourth, if you are not counting when I was a judge in the last season.

Karan: Oh right, you judged the finale episode.

Farah: Ya. I have been here almost as much as you.

Karan: A big event that has transformed your life is your wedding. That happened two years ago?

Farah: Ya, two years.

Karan: I thought it would change you. Tell me, has it changed you?

Farah: ahhhhhh... has it?

Karan: I am asking you. Has it made you softer, calmer?

Farah: I don't think it has made me calmer for sure. But yes, it has given me a perspective in life. And I do enjoy staying at home a lot more now.

Karan: Yes, you have someone to come home to.

Farah: Ya. I like being around the house, doing homely things... not just being on set so much. But I still enjoyed making my second movie a little more than I enjoyed making my first one... when I wasn't married then.

Karan: So cool you look -- new hair do, muscles, six pack I heard...

SRK: Four

Farah: Four have come, two to go!

SRK: I am still working on the last two.

Karan: What made you make this change?

SRK: My son feels I am fat.

Karan: He thinks you are fat?

SRK: He thinks I am fat. He beat up a girl because, first she called me an a******, then she said I look very ugly on KBC... sorry Star. He didn't react, he controlled himself. Finally, when she said, your father is fat, he kicked her. So I got angry with him, and he said, 'Papa, you know what? It is not her fault, it's you. Why are you fat? Because she said, ugly, I didn't mind. You looked handsome on KBC. You are not an a****** I know. You are a cool guy. But you are fat Papa.'
Karan: He thinks you are fat.

SRK: Just imagine. What he thinks about you and Farah, lets not get into that.

Farah: Thanks!

Karan: Are you nervous at all?

Deepika: I am very nervous.

Karan: Was it the same kind of nervousness when you were offered this film? You had to work with Shah Rukh, with Farah... were you completely like all nerves the first day?

Deepika: It was the same kind of nervousness; especially on the first day. Although Farah went all out to make me feel comfortable, she introduced me to Shah Rukh well in advance...

Karan: And everyone tells that he is a terrific co-star...

Deepika: He is fantastic to work with.

Karan: It feels special that you are a part of such a monstrous project?

Deepika: Yes and we have almost come to the end of it.

SRK: I thought Karan was saying you are part of such a monster (pointing to Farah).

Deepika: No, she was wonderful.

Watch Koffee With Karan on August 26 at 9 pm on Star One and Star World.
